Panic stations

I heard from someone who experienced Somalia's disintegration that this is how it starts
Fuel and food panics

Obvs the situation is rather different from Somalia '91, but it's so telling that the UKgov can't reassure peopleenough to stop emptying the petrol stations and supermarkets.

The food shortages and empty shelves happened at the start of the pandemic too though. Remember people buying up all the bog roll?

The government telling people not to top-up their gas tanks or grab a few extra packages of loo roll only prompts more people to do those very things. Everyone just thinks "yeah, it's silly and not warranted but I'm just going to do it quickly, so I'm all set".

Yeah this government enjoys zero trust rating, so there's nothing they can say or do can improve things :ROFLMAO:

it's not just your government, it's any authority, anywhere. Those types of messages only serve to accelerate the thing they are trying to slow down. it's like a bank saying "please don't withdraw extra money out of your account, we highly doubt we are insolvent".

hopefully the country doesn't experience a booze or tobacco shortage.
tobacco will soon be beyond the reach on mere normies like us.
alcohol will be coopted to fuel the state anti-personnel fleet

thank goodness we are now a weed-producing country

I had to stop for a piss at South Mimms on Sunday about midday and they were queueing up the slip round and stationary around roundabouts on both sides. It was run the ring weekend so loads of old VW and goths about as well, its times like these you start thinking about the apocalypse and whether we are just trying to emulate it out of boredom or not.

Anyway i got a coffee and some sausages from the little waitrose as well and by that point there was a policewoman acting as traffic warden on the roundabout, what a waste of a fucking shift that is

Tobacco shortage sounds feasible all it would take is a couple of shifts then everyone is trying to buy that weird smelling duty free turkish from the lads down the pub again

My dad had his little conspiracy theory earlier that all the fuel firms are sitting on excess petrol after WFH & lockdowns and as it approaches the expiry date they've engineered the fuel crisis to shift the last bits of old E5 before the non-premium switches to E10 forever

Pretty extreme but who knows

There's something so wonderfully primeval about these social panics, the way they escalate seemingly arbitrarily, disproportionate emotionally driven overreactions that mushroom into events in their own right,

until you remember that they are entirely media driven
