I don't fight, I run away
I have no idea where the Angel is, nor any easy way of getting there, and I'm busy on Thursdays anyway, so... 😘

AVOID AT ALL COSTS
We were hoping for a few cheap and cheerful pints in an old pub with lots of character. Spoiler- this is not what we got.

Being hyper-aware of how busy all pubs are at the minute and this being multiplied by strict covid restrictions we thought it’d be best to ring earlier on in the evening to try and book a table to avoid disappointment. The lady was pleasant on the phone and said you can’t book but that we will definitely get a table and not to worry because it isn’t busy at all- this was fine with us.

A couple of hours later, we walked up towards the pub and through the window we saw plenty of empty tables- great! We went through to the side door which was entrance only and before we even entered the pub we were screamed at, “Masks!!!! Sign IN!” We quickly obliged and put our masks on as my friend started signing us in on the track and trace form. The man working there, already visibly annoyed? Said aggressively, “You’ll be lucky to even get a table” Okay- fine these things happen. He went off- presumably looking for a table for us? As he left, a man sat directly in front of where we were stood signing in, shouted at us to fill in the track and trace, my friend calmly told him that we are. He then repeated multiple times that we ALL need to fill it in or we won’t be allowed in- my friend repeated that we all will fill it in and not to worry. The man working there then came back and said, no tables. And shrugged his shoulders and pointed to the door. Meanwhile this other man shouted again to tell us to stop filling in the form because we aren’t allowed in anyway so why are we filling it in at all. Unsure as to whether this second male individual worked at the pub or just was a very passionate regular but either way I’d have suggested perhaps not letting him drink another pint due to how aggressive he was already behaving towards a young woman half his age...

It’s safe to say we left feeling humiliated and belittled. As someone who has worked in the hospitality industry for years (and a frequent pub go-er) I never anticipated being treated with such hostility and aggression when all we wanted to do was spend our money there. I’d characterised the short trip we had to the Angel Inn as disgusting. I will tell everyone I know to not step foot in there also. We were definitely not expecting the Ritz but at the very least to be treated like human beings.

Avoid at all costs.

It isn't. I'd have to catch the train and then stay over. Not really bothered enough to that.

In fact, even my home city of Nottingham is hardly doable anymore, now that they've taken the late bus off 😐

This is why we got vaccinated, everyone we know with kids has tested positive in the last 3-4 weeks, we’re the only pair who haven’t (touch wood) but it’s in the post

I raise a tincture dropper on your behalf, gentlemen
