Number 11 - Sorry it has taken so long. I was thinking about films.

11) Light Sleeper

This film is what I think of when I think of 90s thriller. Written by Paul Schrader. Starring Willem Dafoe as an ex drug user. Like many of the films I mention in this thread. It's been a long time since I've seen them, but i remember liking this. It has a lot of atmosphere, dark synths, dark storyline.

12 - White Dog

This is Sam Fuller at his most controversial. Even though it's a parable on race relations it borders on the silly. But it's highly entertaining. I think something had happened to Fuller with the FBI or something a long time prior to this, forget the story, but this was one of the first Sam Fuller films I watched, and I expected his other films to reach this level of polemic, they come close but this is a masterpiece for me.

13) Someone To Watch Over Me

I was never 100% sure about Ridley Scott as a director but this was an important revelation for me in assessing his work. It's one of his most underrated works. A sleazy thriller that I watched with my ex girlfriend the night before she dumped me.

14) Shy People

Another Tangerine Dream scored film. The shots of the 'Bayous' with the score are mesmerising, Aguirre sort of level, while the storyline is not quite as captivating, it's a cohesive effort.

15) Farewell, My Lovely

This is Robert Mitchum at his finest. There's another actor in it, a big chap. My brother in law is a big chap too and I watched it with him and my sister and couldn't help laughing at the resemblance.

18) Dangerous Crossing

Despite being interested in films, for the last few years I've watched a film noir on YouTube and basically nothing else. It helps me sleep. Occasionally I'll stumble upon what I reckon is a lost gem of a film, and this is one of them. A woman is manipulated, you could say 'gaslighted' if you're trendy, on a cruise ship. If not a true noir, a good little mystery thriller.

I rewatched some Cassavetes films recently, the ones with Peter Falk and Gene Rowlands, and found them to be slightly cringeworthy! Shame! As I used to love them. Watching them again with my sister we could barely finish them, partly due to the OTT acting. But he was always an actor and an actors director, and this stands up to a rewatch. I remember them going out and getting into a few fights with jazz music in the background.

You ever seen Black Rain? I'd never heard of it until seeing someone tweet some shots from it the other day. Apparently the film's middling, but looks and sounds great.

Black Rain I think is a good film, it doesn't hold back on Orientalism and is up there with the best Hans Zimmer has done. Full of the Blade Runner synth the CS-80 if I vaguely remember right.
