The Uyghurs

I was talking to two friends recently on opposite ends of the spectrum. One says theres reason to believe that beyond the ideological rebranding a mass state sanctioned organ harvesting operation is going on against the people and its rank genocide. The other, a forum very into psyop twitter, says that whats actually going on is the xinjiang region has been radicalized by insurgents from Afghanistan as well as the CIA (and potentially Russia?) and what China is doing to reeducate the people is the most humane way to deal with a tough situation.

Both sound incredibly stupid

"we should've known there were so many signs in retrospect" but the truth is there's always fog there's always false positives, one eyeball is hysterical, shrouding everything in paranoia the other eyeball is clenched tightly closed "it's fine" the eyeball says

You'd think with satellites and covert operatives, parts of the US Gov know

But then, why not publicize? Turning the world against China is a huge win

Plenty of congressional hearings have congresspeople condemning China on the grounds of human rights violations, for whatever thats worth, in terms of understanding the posture and position of the US here.

I imagine an accusation like that would be cause for massive violent conflict and even if we can gather the intel its the type of claim thats really only going to be convincing through visceral evidence gathered by a war like invasion. like endometriosis you can have surgery to address it if you suspect its there but you can only get a confirmed diagnoses after theyve cut you up.

human rights violation is broad though. have they ever said that china is running a Muslim targeted death machine? or just condemning the general reeducation program

I also know nothing about whats going on, but the mentions in public hearings have been largely off-hand and vague, and obviously convenient to point out when formulating policies to compete with china.

That is, every so often a senator/rep will parenthetically list a couple reasons why we should remember to be wary of China, and Uyghur treatment has been mentioned in such capacities.

Maybe they're being restrained by business? Apparently the Chinese have been stealing products and whatnot from US companies for years and none of them were willing to do anything about it because they didn't want to lose business in the short term.

Technology theft and other unfair business practices originating from China are costing the American economy more than $57 billion a year, White House officials believe, and they expect that figure to grow.

Yet an investigation by NPR and the PBS television show Frontline into why three successive administrations failed to stop cyberhacking from China found an unlikely obstacle for the government — the victims themselves.

In dozens of interviews with U.S. government and business representatives, officials involved in commerce with China said hacking and theft were an open secret for almost two decades, allowed to quietly continue because U.S. companies had too much money at stake to make waves.

Yeah some congressional allegations about Chinese and/or Chinese-American students in the US that siphon research from universities back to CCP.
