I know @yyaldrin , @catalog and @linebaugh have read Mumbo Jumbo, but has anyone read anything else of his? I picked up Mumbo Jumbo the other day and I'm loving it. I love how loose and ramshackle it is, all these tidbits of history and voodoo and all sorts flying at you. I wouldn't be surprised if Gibson read it prior to Count Zero, given the focus on the Loa in that one. It's interesting to read something positive about a pandemic at this time too; Jes Grew being a virus we should want to spread.

I read Mumbo Jumbo, mostly on a greyhound from Chicago to New York.

Also similar vibes from the mentions of "the book" in Gravity's Rainbow.

Some of it's really reminiscent of GR, there's a passage early on where he launches into one of those long paragraphs on history, economics etc and refers to the "Dow Jones snake," which reminded me of the Kekulé passage in GR.

Abdul going on that massive rant at Herman and PaPa LaBas about how they'll be forgotten's really great,

"They will shout loudly about soul because they will have lost it. And their protests will be a shriek. A panic sound. That's just the way it goes, brothers. You will be just a couple of eccentric characters obsolete out-of-date unused as the appendix. Funny looking like the Australian zoo. But me and my Griffin politics, my chimerical art will survive.... And people like you will live in seclusion and your circle will be limited and the people who read you will pride themselves on their culture and their selectiveness and their identification with the avant garde."

Could that not be said about Reed himself?
