yeah my dad likes a nice thriller. ross mcdonald. he's into the aesthetic to the extent he had one of those blacked-out mirror portraits of humphrey bogart in the house

Might jump straight into White Jazz after finishing this one.
He's really going for it in this one. I'm only about fifty pages in and we've already had Dave Klein throwing someone out of a window, admitting to fancying and almost sleeping with his sister, setting up and beating a prospective DA and someone drugging and disemboweling a couple of dogs.

My dad was into this back in the day, a huge uk cultural icon now almost completely submerged in obsloete pre internet mass media
You might recognise the theme tune, more or less the only consistent element through repeated reimaginings across different formats... was replaced on the radio by the archers apparently

Steve Bruce, the football manager, has written some crime novels.

has anyone (except me) read the Nero Wolf novels? I've read all of them. he's grotesquely fat. so fat he can't move so he has a handsome boy genius with a photographic memory to do all the leg work. so it's like splitting a detective into two, one gets into fights, gets entangled with various femme fatales, the other one solves the case by using mental genius, fingers to temples, eyes closed, cheeks puffed out.... im a big fan
No, but I have read about them, meant to check em out.

That is THE Steve Bruce, who with Gary Pallister formed the greatest defensive partnership of all time?
He wrote a book?
