Soul II Soul - Back To Life ( Club Mix )

words can't describe the joy I felt when my fake niece visited with her seven year old son in tow and he entered the living room singing "back to life, back to reality" - at that moment I could almost forgive him for polluting our youtube feed with screaming fortnite streamers, mr beast, and a bunch of other extremely suspect adults pandering for the prepubescent pound

Back to Life - a UK sound system street soul CLASSIC for ALL ages....

very much a choon of the day, or a choon of the last few days, rather than a choon i am presenting to the dissensus massive as one of the greatest must-listen choons of all time, i heard this on NTS on Satruday morning and every time I open my phone to listen to something this is what I put on, several times in a row sometimes, it's been soundtracking walking up and down 1st and 2nd aves in the cold, in the day and in the night. it sounds warm and romantic to me, and obviously very evocative of the 90s alt rock thing, which feels apt for dodging zoomers coming out of bars bundled up in coats in the east village. sunny winter days.

Saw someone sharing a song on Insta and Liza was asking what it was, my first thought was "you've got that you idiot" but then I remembered that it was actually me that had it on seven inch but I was fucked if I knew what it was. Obviously it was German, I guess early eighties, but beyond that..? Got a million singles that fit that description... but the word Traumtanzer was playing on my mind - I guess that means dream dancer - also the name Tio which is Portuguese for uncle and surely couldn't be the band. Finally it fell off the tip of my tongue - Traumtanzer is the a-side but he was playing the b-side, and it turns out the band are called Ti-Tho. Anyway, perfect example of that frantic NDW post-punk flat voiced sound that the Germans surely nailed better than anyone else. One of my favourite types of music. You lot will probably hate it (except maybe Martin, Leo and some others) - good.

@IdleRich ever listen to Decius? Includes one of the Fat White Family guys, very much on the Paranoid London dirty acid tip. pretty cool.

Sure, my favourite is Come To Me Villa, I'm not sure they ever touched those heights again. It's Lias and I guess Quinn from Paranoid London. I do lose track of all those different bands. I dunno what the difference in personnel between Sworn Virgins and Paranoid London is, maybe it's even the same band doing a different sound.

And you got Warmduscher which was Saul from Fat Whites and Clams from PL and Sworn Virgins, but then Saul left and you got Adam from Fat Whites joining, all very incestuous.

And then this guy Josh Caffe who replaced Clams in PL but did this solo tune

etc etc

ah, found your reply.

The other big part of the story is Woops' friend Alex Sebley. He is the reason I know all those cunts - he moved into my spare room and introduced me to Nathan and Lias and their band the Saoudis - my first impression was that Nathan was maybe the worst person I'd ever met. But I guess he sort of grew on me... Alex was in that band and when they went on a tour of Algeria (cos Mr Saoudi their dad was from there) Alex scribbled some gobbledegook about how hot the seats were in the taxi and that became the lyrics to Touch The Leather, which they kindly gave him a writing credit for when it became a single years later.

And then after Alex and band graciously parted ways, he tried his hand at many things, such as publishing Woops' book and making a video for Mulato Pintado (who is Clams from Paranoid London)

And he formed a band called Pregoblin who had some good songs I think

The problem is that at every turn he seemed to end up in a massive feud with either FWF or Lewis from Morbid Books or Woops etc

Oh and then you got Moonlandingz which is something to do with Lias I think, and Insecure Men which is basically Saul and about seven slaves.
