yeah but you two are misunderstanding how indie works. being incompetent is the whole point
no i do get it i know it's supposed to be some sort of rejection of things like ideals and sounding kind of ramshackle is meant to be a positive rather than a negative

not sure it holds up in this day and age where you've got indie musicians whose whole thing is doing their version of steely dan, carpenters and all that wishy washy 70s am radio stuff

although now that i think about it there's an entire wave of rap on soundcloud that's just "it sounds like "insert rapper here" but with Super Smash bros samples and is poorly mixed"

if anything its the fact that their mixed bad is what brings them all together

here's the next 2 tracks anyway
i like the first one. no clue what he's saying at the moment. feels breathless and breezy. and young/carefree. there's something about the cops in the lyrics. my momma said something about uncut grass? i like the parody logo as well. feels like whatever they are doing, they are having a laugh, which i like. like with goody mob, i would be interested in checking out more from them.

the 2nd one - got that young thug howling feel. it's a little bit serious and sad sounding for me a touch. very mournful. but i do appreciate the vocal distortions going on. got an almost reggae feel, like mavado. i can hear the words on this. "all you know is what i know, so stop acting like you know" - it's very plaintive, verging on pathos/sentimentality. maybe if i was really sad i would put this on, dunno. it's a bit one trick. not a trick i'm particularly at the moment, at least not right now.

ribbing on what I said last night, Dean Blunt is proof of Miles Davis contention that rhythm is something you have to practice and that it is learned, not innate, east London's disproof of orientalism, right there! The guy has no flow whatsoever.

i'm sure @catalog has something to say about this i haven't listened to much blunt compared to either of you but i agree that to call what he has a "flow" is kinda laughable
i would probably need some examples if you really want me to talk about this (and i don't really want to, i thought this thread was about something else).

if by flow, you mean rhythm in the vocal delivery, then i think you are right generally, especially with regard to other hip hop mcs.

I'm surprised you didn't comment on the heavy metal ballad guitar in the Bloody Jay track

and as far as the Johnson & Johnson track you can see why i make the statement in how "Real friends" is basically a Blu song right? @catalog

indie culture is formed in reaction to demanding middle class parents. its a rejection of effort and ideals of competence/perfection etc
its supposed to be rubbish. i personally hate it, but i understand it as a professional anthropologist.

no, I get that. But in that case, why not just listen to random harsh noise like those mans who have merzbow's entire discography on their hd? I mean, I applaud that sheer bloody single mindedness.

This was after seeing masonna live at the garage on valentine's Day. He was only on stage for about six minutes but that was long enough to throw the mic stand at my girlfriend's head injuring her. Then he jumped off his Marshall stack injuring himself. End of show.
