we cycle through a series of selves

do you feel like the same person from day to day or can you vaugely intuit (or precisely conceive of) a cast of characters with different desires, values, modes of operating, interests, abilities and weaknesses?

I think the self is protean, a continuous phenomenon which may be classified into any number of distinct states.

I'm not sure it was an idea worth elaborating upon. Really, now that I think about it, it can be said of most anything, i.e. that the territory is perceived as continuously changing yet conceived (as the map) as discretely classifiable.

Do we have a say in the matter? That is to ask is one able to will oneself through, or a least exert some level of determining willpower over, their psychic developments most broadly? I am, and have been, but it seems like most haven't figured it out, i.e. how to not only apprehend reality as plastic but indeed to transform it.

This gets into the territory of magic, if we define magic as the influencing of conscious experience by the will.

And of course it'll only be magic until we can understand it enough to do it scientifically.

does someone want to answer the question?
Do I feel like the same person day to day? I can tell you that when I consider my thoughts and actions from long enough ago, it often/usually feels like I am speculating as to the contents of an alien mind, i.e. another person.

Yep. I didn't have this stuff in mind as I read Ulysses but in hindsight its a prime example. I'd imagine the Wake sees it through to terminal velocity.

Pale Interregnum. Moon disruption. Stage 2- usurp the programmer. The current state of knowledge allows only for acts of sabotage, commonly in the shape of intoxication, of more or less randomised result and necessarily of strictly limited duration.

All our attempts have been merely speculative and experimental. As lone operatives lacking systematic and organised collection and comparison of data and consequently no way of tying cause and effect. We are in the pre-scientific stage, the stage of alchemy. In this way we expose ourselves to great dangers in the hope of great rewards.

To speak plainly what we require is full control of the reality-field. G-O-D is, in this hypothesis, a function we can appropriate, but how? This is the great prize and as such is jealously guarded.

The positions on the board have no permanence however, nothing here is fixed as the game is still in progress. The weapon which is effective today blows up in your hand tomorrow. What is road out today is dead end tomorrow. All freedoms are provisional and temporary. Continue to dispute the borders of the possible.

Consciousness is emergent, so it flows and flexes in time, which is also emergent

It can’t be static

Values? That’s a different conversation
Yeah and science has a difficult time accounting for emergent phenomena, at least the kind of science I know and love, i.e. identifying/arbitrating some basic building blocks and scaling up from there. Emergence by definition confounds this epistemology.

edit: although really the units don't need to be basic so much as they need to be constitutive of higher order systems. That is, the units may be systems themselves, e.g. atoms, and divisible into finer and baser units yet.

sort of. i think the Wake suggests a kind of structural underlying pattern that results in producing iterations of the same figures, personalities, events

im trying to get past this and into the conceptualisation of a positive and identifiable cast of characters
