that sounds so so so so so so so shit

and not just because it would make it much harder to browse the web during meetings, personally I'd rather look at someones actual face and lips moving instead of some weird cartoon figure. It's something that might be fun once for the novelty, but what actual benefit is it bringing for getting work done?

are companies going to be buying their staff headsets then?

But really we as a global society already have one foot in the metaverse. Just look at our screen time.
Oh yeah there's definitely something there with the metaverse, I just don't get why they're trying to shoehorn it into work meetings. It should be a tool for fun and creativity, not just sat round a table taking turns to speak. It makes no sense for it to be a tool for just doing what you would do if you could be bothered to get dressed and leave your house.

These ideas are probably 10-15 years down the line when the tech will be more standardised i guess.

Personally i am planning on becoming an old luddite when it all really kicks in

It does seem pretty pathetic to me to be honest, as does the way everything about it is focussing on the workplace too. Tech progression should allow us to do less work, not more

Edit- sorry @Pandiculate i am parrotting your posts here

I'm also getting a glimpse into DAO workflow and coordination, where meetings are held on zoom or on voice call in Discord channels. If these meetings can be gamified somehow, maybe in ways that motivate more involvement and contribution across the ranks of the organization, then it would make sense if such practices started getting adopted.

I think a lot of this talk about virtual meetings and gamifying meetings is somewhat confused as of now, but I also think its symptomatic of the larger trend of blending work/recreation/wellness/social-life/etc. One's whole life becomes decompartmentalized to a large extent, if not entirely.

Making work a more ludic experience may be a way of mentally coping with the straining, albeit competitive advantage conferring, 24/7 availability to work.

I guess it depends if you are willing to participate in this scenario where work never stops

Plenty of people aren't, but i know there are a couple of industries where it is expected of you

You need to be careful with all that though lest you turn 40 and think christ what have i done with my life

I think those who will thrive most in such an arrangement will be those who are able to derive social and emotional fulfillment from their professional situations, but I suppose such people have long tended to thrive professionally.

Depends on the game they're in really. I've saw a few burnouts here and there it's not nice.

I think if you end up adding vr and artificial realities to this mix it is a recipe for disaster

More power to them though i guess
