The Role of Stupidity

Whats the function of stupidity today? Pure hair brained stupidity. Fantastic leaps of anti logic. Lots of talk on extremism and polarization in the culture but stupidity is under analyzed. Im thinking of a 'revealing the map' angle- something in the water, factors at play that have shown the stupidity dormant in everyone rear head in seemingly un stupid individuals. Theres been an activation.

Luka said awhile ago that one of the worst parts of facebook was finding out that half of your friends are idiots and thats the direction we should take this thread (and not political lineage, misinformation, conspiracy theorists and etc. please)

Stupidity can be allofunctional, benefitting others, perhaps at the cost of the stupid person.

Opiation of would-be critical opponents, preconfiguring what registers as a threat, what registers as suboptimal.

In investing, especially crypto, stupidity has the function of letting others profit off of you.

Stupidity may protect one from certain knowledge, knowledge that may compromise their existential comfort level.

I feel a distinction must be made between stupid and dumb. I think you two are describing dumbness, while stupidty is an active, connecting force.

You mean like an active refusal to understand something?
this is a personal definition I made now but I think being dumb is being unable to understand something, while stupidity is a type of 'wrong' understanding. The latter resonates with the moment

I think of stupid as a difficulty in understanding, as in stupefying someone, rendering them incapable of certain action.

If we wanna distinguish it from dumb, pretty sure dumb originally means that you can't speak or something, along the lines of "lame" anyway.
