at what point did the pitchfork industrial complex come into being and start churning out algorithmically generated indie poptimist sludge?
I'm still thinking about how good the c. 2009-2013 P4k golden age was. Resonant Frequency, Why We Fight, The Poptimist, Ordinary Machines. Those columns, Mark and Lindsay and Tom and Nitsuh, are what got me into thinking and writing about music in a meaningful way.

they aren't are though. They are just indie kids getting into Kanye West. Embarrassing.

It's really not good is it, I like Shiels a lot but it's so much... Less, on every dimension you want out of a song, than So Hot You're Hurting My Feelings

just listened to this and actually shiels is right.
the deliberately flattened emotional range, the muffled and almost affectless quality is characteristic of the last ten years. we had a theory about it....
