the important thing to do, in order to placate the masses is to explain that you dont think the music is good, or expect anybody to 'like' it. patiently explain that you are merely using it as a lens to investigate said social/political realities. then do your brilliant exposition

prescription stimulant music for doing your webdev work ("coding")
like this may not be accurate i dont know, im not 19 like he is, but it suggests the conditions the music is made under and consumed under, what its social function is and so on

he is himself a coder and also one of the most famous experimental electronic music auteurs of today. and he has an alarming 'smart drug' habit and an intimate familiarity with prescription stimulants so he knows what hes talking about. and on top of that he studies music composition at Goldsmiths.

as one of our younger members was saying just the other day

everyone in this generation who wants to think and write about music faces the same problem. music has been cancelled. music, like Reality itself, is now generated by The Algorithm. we've been shunted onto the simulation. the only thing you can really do that's interesting and worthwhile is to closely analyse and interpret what is there. there's nothing to champion but plenty to examine and understand.

There is some properly exciting stuff in this domain, but it is absolutely saturated with anime/memes/nonce chucklefucks. At its best it's properly psychedelic though.
i agree that this is all good as far as it goes but it also is a good illustration of one of bartys arguments, that sci-fi, and those future-visions are now inherently retro, kitschy and conservative

they dont refer to or reflect historical forces but only point back to earlier representations of the future embodied in science fiction. that was a better argument, it turns out, than i realised at the time

is it made from a deep familiarity with and understanding of drug spaces or is it annoying people trying to be as annoying as possible. it sounds good sober but what does it sound like if youve just done 12 Ecstasys with Corpsey, or drunk a shot glass of liquid acid?
