Hi i am completely new here, I found out about Dissensus thru reading k-punk — not 100% sure how this works but am just gunna jump in and share some stuff I think it’d be fun to discuss:

They don’t need to be listened to all the way through; I recommend just using the slider to get a sense of each one.

post-internet rave stuff — I find it interesting because it uses this glitchy aesthetic to reveal the technology it’s produced thru — manifests a cultural mood that feels really relevant to people of my generation who grew up with internet technologies, and then pushes that into a collective dance/rave music. Haven’t seen it discussed anywhere (lmk if you have) so wanted to bring it up here!

More thoughts/notes:
Technological mess vs clean hyperpop. Glitchy. Sensorily bewildering. Cheap, maximalist, ugly. Rave music that’s been processed through a dysfunctional internet grinder with broken plastic bits of sound splintering off. Accelerated, camp, distorted. Cultural markings of the internet — aesthetics of anime, video games, memes (can get into this more with further examples).

it's mad to me that jungle has now become this signifier for some people of "i'm really into mark fisher and have an interest in aesthetics"

guterring is hard acid gentrified and made into an art student karaoke
Was expecting some actual engagement with the music but reductive judgements it is I guess 🤷‍♀️

I’m not asking u to like this stuff but being smug about it isn’t as intelligent a response as u seem to think

just out of interest is there anyone who uses this site regularly who isn’t old, white, cishet and a man — this isn’t liberal identitarianism but more like do u not think about other perspectives…

what kind of perspective about music do student raves that are explicitly focused on drug use and social games and not music provide, I wonder?
