I guess the textures and tonalities of something like Renegade Snares or LTJ Bukem is a little drier, bleaker, more heterosexual

With a lot of this music, and a lot of music being made today tbh, I end up wondering where the drive for pleasure has gone.

Like it all seems so self consciously cut up, zig zagging around, throwing you off. I get that it's music that sounds like life online with a thousand tabs open and surfing Wikipedia endlessly Yadda Yadda yadda.

But music used to be pleasurable you know? Jungle was/is sexy, exciting, absolutely hedonistic. Music to bring..on. the. rush.

What's this ritalin music for? Why make music that sounds like the shit mundane part of human existence (being awake at 4am with a thousand tabs open on your laptop)? That's what I don't get.

May be that's it actually- may be this music, for all it's hyperactivity, is really at root just a reflection of mundanity. Like gang of four were to 80s grimness and dole queues, this stuff is to 2020's bleary online "life"

it really is the musical equivalent of a cumpilation.
a montage which contains only the very peaks of ecstasy with all other context cut out.
due to being put one next to another they form the most non exciting plateau possible.
the editor of the video cut down on all the less exciting bits of the source material, yet you are still skipping through, in a futile attempt of finding the most intense within the intense, anything that would strike you at all.
As much soundcloud, as it is pornhub.

Was expecting some actual engagement with the music but reductive judgements it is I guess 🤷‍♀️

I’m not asking u to like this stuff but being smug about it isn’t as intelligent a response as u seem to think

just out of interest is there anyone who uses this site regularly who isn’t old, white, cishet and a man — this isn’t liberal identitarianism but more like do u not think about other perspectives…
no disrespect gnasher i just brought up the ting with Fisher and jungle cuase it's something i've noticed quite frequently
i thought that Post rave maximalist track wasn't bad although "maximalist" music isn't really my thing and as for Blue Moon Nexus outside of the fake dreamcast art didn't really sound that much different from stuff of the period tbh

only thing i tick off on that list is being a man but honestly outside of me @thirdform and a few others who i assume don't really chat music that's what your gonna find on this here forum i'm afraid

im interested if someone has something clever and imaginative to say about it but dont just slap it on my plate and tell me to like it becasue it's 'new' (even when its just a cackhanded version of something old)

@gnasher i mean i can see what you mean about the signifiers of the internet as such but outside those signifiers it doesn't feel that much musically different to what people like Venetian Snares, Bong-ra and what those guys were doing in the mid 2000s

I get that since hyperpop became a thing people have been going back to some of this stuff and trying to take it seriously in a way alot of people didn't and still don't to some degree but yeah doesn't exactly strike me as "post-internet" or whatever

I disagree. Clearly you haven't listened to enough 93 bad trip darkside. Destroy your poptimist illusions!

but you could swap it for a word like 'kicks' or 'intensity' and it would be doing the same work really

It is liberal identitarianism though. Modern raciological politics like to abstract at will who is white or who isn't. So me, brown skinned, Asian, am theoretically white according to many Americans, because I am Kurdish Turkmen, I am somehow white because I don't fit into the oppressor/oppressed dynamic. And it is often white people who make these arguments instead of being like, all right, I own that I'm white, even if I recognise that race is a pseudo-scientific concept.

There is some properly exciting stuff in this domain, but it is absolutely saturated with anime/memes/nonce chucklefucks. At its best it's properly psychedelic though.

Yeah, the bandcamp trans noise pop/french/japanese flashcore end of it is fascinating. Really pushing at the limits of cognition whilst still being linked to grotty bassments.

Great mix this, proper future speedcore!

Sadistic is good also.
