the Arbitrary

The Pollock clip I posted was good too, Linebaugh appreciated it. Every stroke seems as good as every other stroke and if you sit there deliberating which to pick you'll never pick. Creativity has to accept a little bit of arbitrariness. Cage & aleatory art take this to the logical extreme.

i guess im just not sure if what you are saying necessarily negates what Moretti is arguing

this sense of the arbitrary has now extended itself into character formation and into interpretations of truth and reality
Is this a shared sense or a sense that an observer looking from the outside in might have?

Cause for those in it I think style has the sense of being the least arbitrary aspect of 'character formation'

best thing about this thread so far is that i have learned how to spell abitrary. i never noticed the extra 'r' before

Computers head gus is saying true randomness doesn't exist luke, anomalies highlight limits of understanding and the need for further study, they’re just points in patterns or processes that are of complexity beyond current comprehension

i dont know about that necessarily but becoming aware of the arbitrary nature of your choices definitely lands you in difficult waters.

i often go on about that time as a teenager when weed amplified my self consciousness to the point when everything i did felt wrong, from the voice i chose to use to the way i was standing at the traffic light waiting for the green man
