"it was ok i suppose" : a non reaction to "polarazing" things

Not entirely sure where to put this but this is a broad topic imo

I often find with certain works of art music movies that have a reputation of being "polarizing" coming away from them feeling like they were ok at best.

right now i'm throwing @catalog a bone and after listening to The Narcissist 2 last night now listening to Blunt's Black metal and while the former had an interesting vibe and the latter is admittedly pretty sounding...the best i can come away from it is feel like it was "ok"

For movies the ones that come to mind are Michael Mann's Miami Vice(which i didn't finish) and Mullholland Drive(for the love of god do not turn this into an entire lynch thing) i suppose i was slightly more negative on the latter

Its not that i feel like i've come away from things feeling like i had the wrong response more like i somehow circumnavigated the argument entirely, maybe the crux of it is these things are more interesting in generating furious conversation cause of what they hint at or address or its spill over from spaces/communities where these things are a big deal but now it seems like everybody has to have a strong opinion on them when you don't really.

what do you lot think?

that's not to say as if everything that has a reputation of being polarising i don't come out the other end feeling definite about, I watched Peter Medak's The Ruling Class recently and was crying with laughter watching it(on the day Blair got his knighthood no less)

Mulholland Drive is obviously the best film of the 20th C, however setting this aside, I found Dune just fine but nothing special whereas most people I talk to love or hate it

Craner is obsessed with sex have people noticed this before? With Jack it is obvious although I'm not sure you could call it sex, more self love, drug like indulgence, something out of Houllebecq, but Craner is obsessed with beautiful women

im not totally indifferent to them and there are films which have made an impression on me but a lot of things i see people raving about, specially old black and white films, i cant even truly beleive people are telling the truth. i always assume they are just pretending to like it
