Hey craner, what's going on in Kazakhstan?

This seems like @craner's field of expertise, although I'd also like to hear @shakahislop's take.

I asked my Kazakh colleague today, and she is at least open to the government's line that the protesters, or some of them, are paid agitators.

absolutely no idea, i don't know anything about it. looks like a bit of a palaver but most of that kind of thing seems to sort itself back out (ie go back to the status quo) pretty quickly

craner told me he assumed it was another CIA sponsered 'color revolution' quickly quashed by Putin

I would be very happy if it was another colour revolution, but those days are long gone

I would love to hear this take please bless us with your wisdom Mentor
I would have thought you'd been here long enough to work this out already, but just to be sure: if luka wrote a post saying "craner tells me two plus two makes four", I would get out my calculator to check.

the newspapers say they got 100.000 soldiers on the border, do you think what is happening in kazachstan has something to do with it?

Craner's on the blower to the embassy right now. Whiskey dangling from one hand, chair tilted back with a foot on the desk, tie off, top button undone.
