Dissensus' first brostep thread

really cannot tell whether the title is an allusion to smegma.
the bit at 1:40 is even gently uplifiting with it's bright, harmonious formants.
not massive on the bassdrum, yet another one of those tracks that could be improved tons if they were only focused on the bassline without the bloody hollow kick/snare.

classically tacky intro, really like some of the percussive fills on this, like that filtered hihat thing. also proper fuckin distortion.
like the length, there is really no point to stretch it out for longer. in n out, straight business.

yeah brostep/riddim drums are almost uniformly terrible.

most cohesive out of the three in terms of sonics, kungfu samples are super cool. first brostep tune av heard in ages that has better breakdowns than the drop?
still, it is quite bright really, like all of those. still clicks/hats/whooshes that are doing the bit in the mids/highs are certainly a more interesting direction than the usual synth, overdrive, filter, overdrive, resample, overdrive process.
why not make it punchier on the whole spectrum though? I really do not understand, it loses some of energy because of the attack going slash in the bottoms, stab in up n rest.

Here's a great wobble write-up from back in the day by the mysterious blogger Leaving Earth aka Taninian (but frustratingly doesn't do YouTube clips or audio links)

of Tomba's Brace For Impact EP Taninian says it "excels at the 'grunt-step' wobble variety, like a horde of towering, Godzilla-sized pig-robots marching through a nocturnal megapolis, crushing everything in their way while puking out cascades of green ooze through writhing hydraulic cyber-snouts"

wobble and brostep aren't the same thing imo. Wobble has good drums, brostep often has those really tinnie post-skrillex american edm drums.

Some of this bandcamp "freeform bass" stuff is cool, dunno if it's a J Dilla influence or what but the glitchy/staggering beats are better than straight halfstep.

wish the kosmische intro would be something the author clinged onto more, the rest sounds like soundtrack of a promo video for some company that makes equipment for meat processing
