im going to put some of this on and do some cooking, the trouble is you people have zero quality control so im just going to have to guess which ones are good

That is a problem with Tangerine Dream, a band who also seemingly had no quality control and every time any one of them accidentally sat on a piano or turned on a drum machine they released it as a double album. TD are a perfect example of how now - when we have access to anything - the most important skill in hearing good music is no longer about tracking stuff down, but rather it has become how we filter it, how we remove the chaff.

Now there's a surprise - look who they've got for a support act! Had no idea they were even still going tbh.

OK, so last night was pretty fucking great, all things considered. I don't have any real knowledge of their back catalogue, but the music struck me as having one foot solidly in the tradition of proggy 70s/80s electronica while at the same time sounding pretty fresh and contemporary. I particularly enjoyed the heavily effects-laden electronic violin that the Japanese lady plays - I think at points it was shifted down an octave, so it sounded more like a cello or double bass. Some of the tunes had a pretty solid beat to them, that you could dance to if you were in that sort of mood, but it wasn't really what you'd call techno.

There were some great visuals too, although at one point it changed from cool abstract "entering the stargate" type patterns to footage of the band playing some previous gig, which seemed a bit masturbatory, to be honest. Oh and there was one bit where I honestly half-wondered if their PC had crashed and restarted, because it looked just like a Windows loading screen.

Plus one tune sounded a bit like some naff New Age CD you'd hear playing in the foyer area of a spa, but thankfully it didn't go on too long.

I have never seen, and have zero desire to see, the German porno flick that Klaus Schulze soundtracked ( somehow I imagine pale flabby flesh and copious moustaches, a hirsute lard fest ) but this is an amazing example of Berlin School synthesis

edit: top left, check the classic 70s porno chair ( I once saw a documentary about this type of chair, youtube rip below, this style of wicker chair features on the covers of so many 1970s albums and I've been reliably informed that it was also a staple of 70s top shelf / under the counter publications ):

Why this chair is on so many album covers

I saw this chair in the doorway of a second hand shop in Lisbon the other day...
