when swordsmen of different styles connect

i'm not the right age to find it sonically exciting (coz it already sounded a bit old school when I was 20 or whatever) and a lot of that older hiphop 'canon' has bad associations for me, not that that should matter but it does a little bit, a lot of it makes me think of people who essentially like guitar music who think that they should like some hiphop as well. it was always the more middle class kids that went to university who were listening to it.
yknow its funny @catalog of all people wanted to talk on this cause this is similiar to his explanation of how he got turned off of rap music (only his is further in that he got turned off the genre all together) see my thread on white people spoiling things for other whites

honestly as far as ODB god bless the dead but the fact that there were people who only seemed to like him over the other 8 guys in the crew never really sat well with me, but what do i know there's people who swear that zelooperz is odb reincarnate but he stinks

@shakahislop i mean your feelings on Wu only matter in the sense that older rap music (especially from the 90s) and 2000s underground rap was just treated as the gateway for people to get into rap music without having to address the music on its own terms, the grating hectorin white rap fan who swears that his favourite niche rapper is better whoever is currently popular is one of the more infamous characters in rap and the mid 20s-early 30s rock listener who only listens to say pitchfork approved rappers is a close cousin of his.

One of those people who'll tell you that he thought rap was garbage and that Kanye was a jackass until My beautiful dark twisted fantasy then it was like "wow he really is a genius". we already got a thread on here about the man but when it came to his music there are alot of people who talked about Kanye who genuinly do not see him as a rapper and they still don't, plus when you bring this up they get VERY angry about it.

in this instance its because of the night i had and also because of my largly negative feelings on Jay Z both on music and as a persona

another point where we connect. there's only thing i've ever heard which by Jay Z that I thought was good, which was Takeover, which is incredible i think. find his stuff really brittle in general.

actually there's one other good thing i've seen him do which is an interview from a few years ago where he seems absolutely racked by guilt for his crack dealing back in the day.
