Motorik

When I first heard it I thought it was totally motorik, but when I decided to put it on dissensus yesterday I had a sudden crisis of confidence or lack of faith or something and it no longer seemed so clear cut.

Just realised I putt that tune in the thread before but it didn't show up when I searched... everyone ignored it then so no harm done.

Tonight Liza was dj-ing for our friend's band, she played this tune and it sounded amazing. I asked what it was and it turns out it's this guy I've met in Dusseldorf and she played me his music when she first got it and, you know, I thought it was pretty good... just shows how important context is I suppose. Obviously it's a completely shameless rip-off of its really really obvious influences but - right now at least - it's such a good one that I don't care.

Not really motorik at all but it does remind me a little of Hallogallo so it's allowed in this thread

Just noticed that there is a copy of that on discogs priced to sell at 100,000 pounds - hurry folks!

Minami Deutsch - Your Pulse

back from a nightmare travel experience which bookended a wonderful holiday, like the reverse of a shit sandwich, returned home minus my "delayed" luggage containing 32 ostrock albums and six bottles of rum*, to find the new Minami Deutsch album on my doorstep, just listening now and only on side one but so far every track is "motorik"

being lazy and posting the first tune, but shades of Hawkwind's "Opa-Loka" and "You Shouldn't Do That" ( the breathy 'ha" )

* my "delayed" luggage finally turned up today after four days of stress, top tip: opt for "collect at airport" rather than "deliver to home" - the delivery guy was pretty chatty, told me four days was nothing, he had to drop off four suitcases to a woman who had been waiting four weeks, turned out she was the mother of the owner of the luggage who was her daughter who had flown out for her wedding and the suitcases contained the wedding dress, etc.,

Let's Talk About Ceps
Heard this on the radio earlier - nicely motorik bit of neo-kraut, actually a cover of the song sung by Britt Ekland wi'out her kit on in The Wicker Man.

I like it... but there is a sense in which it feels as though the vocal and the beat have almost nothing to do with each other. I want to hear it again though so something is working.

To me motorik splits into the trancey cruising type sound and the more frantic, seemingly accelerating stuff. I was gonna say that this is a lot more frantic than Opa-Loka but it moves across the divide as it goes on. A whole album of completely unoriginal but brilliant stuff like this you say? Maybe I should splash out on the album. Hmmm.

Going to UK on Friday, will fuck everything right up if that happens... no wait, only taking hand-luggage, we should be fine. Love travelling with only hand luggage cos I'm so fucking impatient I hate waiting by the conveyor belt thing.

Liza is suggesting that our next show for Mutant Radio will be maybe pure motorik. Thing is the show is only an hour which doesn't exactly leave much room for many epic trance-dance european endless krautjams. I'm thinking if we have the time it might be fun to do something with short extracts from loads of motorik tunes - say all the best ones from this thread - seamlessly woven together to create a single, hour long motorik piece. Probably beyond me to do it welll sadly... but maybe I will have a crack. An alternative idea might be an hour mix for Mutant and then a longer (two hour? Three?) version with more tracks on it on soundcloud or something... though maybe they wouldn't like that. Hmmm, anyway, one way or another there will likely be a broadly motorik mix of one form or another at some point in the early new year. Unless there isn't.

I forgot to mention the band Cavern of Anti-Matter which is Tim Gaines from Stereolab and of course it should be right up my street. However I have the double lp thing called Hormone Lemonade, and despite it being on paper the closest thing to something grown in a lab for my delectation, I never quite loved it as I wanted to. I think I have another of their records too and I can't remember which one, definitely not a good sign...

However, looking at their discography on discogs it appears that they have quite a few records I've never heard and, listening quietly as it's 6am and I don't want to disturb people, it appears that as far as I can tell, the following is both pretty good and makes a reasonable case for appearing in this thread

I also notice that there is a twelve inch single which contains a re-working of that tune by Hieroglyphic Being which I can't find on full on youtube but which I'd certainly be keen to check out.

Is there anyone who knows the band well? I just feel that there must be some really good stuff in there - but which is it? Help me?

And adding to that there is a further complication in that Tim Gaines now has another band, they're called Ghost Power and I guess there must be some motorik jam hidden somewhere in their album. Does anyone know anything about this? I did give the album a quick listen on youtube and it didn't grab me on the first go but probably if I'd been as shallow as I am now thirty years ago I would never have got into Neu! in the first place so what do I know?

So... any thoughts on Cavern of Anti-Matter or Ghost Power please?
