When Belgium Ruled the World

Nice one. Great find at that price - is actually an expensive record. Too expensive in my opinion although I like it. Liza paid a lot for it.

Yes that's what puzzled me - like what happened after 92?

It's like a really narrow moment of insane greatness - roughly 90-92.

New Beat seemed fun at the time but can't listen to it now.

lots and lots and lots of trance/hardtrance, with techno/hard acid industrial ajax gear following as a close second (though not nearly as much.)

If you want the brain battering industrial techno gear Seal Phuric, Pat Vision, and d-jack sets from around 93-94 are worth checking. La Chapelle in Liege. Although most of it not actually Belgian, midwest and German records played.

Never got into much Belgian stuff per se but was enamored for a while with the Play It Again Sam label, eclectic releases with hands in different pots. I guess they were more into ‘acts’ inspired by dance records from this ‘ruling’ period more than releasing that sort of stuff

I guess they’re like the Factory Records of Belgium in that way, home for acts earlier in the 80s who are later in the decade/early 90s playing catch-up (oftem rather poorly) with this next wave of more anonymous dance music undercutting their relevance

Picked up one disc from this in a second hand shop while waiting around to meet someone today. Going absolutely fucking mad with so many records getting lost in the post, I need some new stuff to play around with at least.

Dunno which versions are the best yet, but will find out later no doubt

Why Belgium is now the cocaine capital of Europe

for those who can't be bothered to watch (TLDW; ) - it's, allegedly, because of those pesky Albanians... ( they're really getting bad press at the moment - total smear campaign being conducted by UK media )
