Drvg Cvltvre - what's good? Is there a sort of scene

honestly luv this stuff 2 da max, anti-rave music for jaded ravers. just completely beaten up, no pretences to the 4 dimensionality that a good club system necessitates, these days. even the drvg cvltvre thing you posted doesn't sound like a cleanly engineered tech house banger.

did say earlier Willikens and ivkovic might be a tad clean for my dj set tastes but then I remembered this which is pure duseldorf dark trance chug.

Bloody hell, might play it in my next mix.

Let's Talk About Ceps
Assuming you're familiar with the 90s Hague scene? Unit Moebius/Bunker records etc.? Drvg Cvltvre is sort of the continuation of the more slow'n'sleazy/electro end of that. He was actually part of that scene and this archive of his early Ra-X recordings is nasty as fuck:
That sounds for all the world like a scuzzier and faster version of this:

FFWD to about 1:10.

I suppose rather than a scene, this is sort of a convergence point between the sludgier, burnt-out end of techno and the less kitsch/melodic/kraftwerkian end of electro. It's fruitful ground.

Yeah I'm thinking the same actually, there are various things that fit here but they often arrived at the point from different places and might well be travelling in a different direction.

Well this has quickly become my favorite current thread, love this sound. I imagine some Paranoid London tracks fit the description.

This one is kinda Paranoid London but completely different sound to the thread

Still gonna mention it anyhow cos I love it and you've given me an excuse, plus it certainly does wreck the dancefloor - there was this girl dancing like fucking crazy and for a sec I thought she'd hurt herself, she was jumping up and down and screaming... I finally decided that she was just happy but it took me a while to be sure. I suppose it's a fine line and it is often hard to tell an whether a contorted face and its accompanying cry is one of agony or one of ecstasy. And even when I had worked that out I was still worried she was gonna jump so high she smashed her head on the speaker....

They've done a thing that - to me at least - sounds like a cover of Walk The Night but with a different name. This has more of that dark sleaze feel but it's still not the same sound as the Drvg Cvltuvre one is it?

And that guy done a solo tune which is cool....

To me this song (say) is not the same style as the one that I mentioned at the start of the thread, but it wouldn't surprise me if a lot of people who like that like this one too.

Maybe the dub is a little bit closer to DC....

To me there is a definite distinction between stuff like Drvg Cvltvre and, say, this

I like that a lot too... it has the same sort of dark and doomy chords and some of the same sound palette, it will mix pretty easily into the other tune and a lot of people will like them both... but to me it's ultimately quite a different style of music. I think so anyhow.
