Totally Misconceived Music Films

ABC - Mantrap ( directed by Julien Temple 1983 )

"inspired" by @blissblogger's liner notes thread, I was reminded of this abomination

but surely, there must be more?

ill conceived and badly orchestrated "vehicles" for bands, groups, and artists to move product

I am reminded of the cinematic catastrophe that constitutes Led Zeppelin's The Song Remains The Same

Led Zeppelin The Song Remains The Same

[ yawn... ]

and then, there are the films I have never seen, but somehow want to press "eject" on

like, Slade - In Flame

Slade - In Flame

oh.. it's on youtube... maybe I should watch the Midlands finest in a kung fu film? ( not actually watched the film, but assumed it maybe "poor" )

so.. what are the worst?

this is an example of a film I have never watched, because I sort of know it will be shite

Sergeant Peppers Lonely Heart's Band

one question? WHY?

at least 10 years since the music was released... who could have thought this was a "good" idea?

who needs Peter Frampton to rework the "fab four"?

fortunately the Gary Glitter film from 1974, Remember Me This Way, can not be found on youtube, but although I have never seen it, I can assume this was BAD, even though Gary did "kung fu" ( special style: pedo punch! )

at this point i am vacillating

do I delete this thread?

or does someone have an example of a crappy, rubbish, video by some band that we can mercilessly demolish and then feel much, much, much better about ourselves?

I'm trying to be a better person since I may have murdered my neighbour in some sort of blackout drunkeness - please, help me out here!

Well I can vouch (having done a book on glam) that the Glitter film is ridiculously bad.

As is the Marc Bolan vehicle Born to Boogie (well the concert sequences are exciting but there are lots of Magical Mystery Tour sequences of crap sub-surrealism, including Ringo Starr who was Marc's pal and directed the whole crapfest if i recall right)

there's also a pretty poor Alice Cooper film

BUT

Slade in Flame - actually pretty good.

It has a nice Get Carter-ish, filmed on location in the North of England, washed-out color palette look.

The Slade boys do a reasonably creditable job acting (more or less being themselves)

And overall it's oddly - interestingly - bleak 'n 'gritty look at the life of being in a band in the UK, all the sharks and users they had to deal with.

Not what the fans were expecting given their fun image.

But on the larger subject, there must be droves of these films.

I have heard people say that the Dave Clark Five film is surprisingly good, though.

i mean of course there's a large number of rap movies not talking movies just starring them but also directed/written by them: No Limit had a few (I'm Bout it,MP Da last Don & I got the hook up), Mobb Deep had Murda Musik, Sorry to Bother you was directed by Boots Riley of The Coup so note sure if that counts .

and that's not even getting to all the street DVDs that like Smack, Cocaine City( French Montana's series before he became a rapper), 2 raw 4 the streez and not to mention Risky Roadz and Crazy Times Vol. 1 for grime
