Was at this warehouse rave ting down Walthamstow last night cause i really just wanted to find something to do on a Saturday, part of my education on me learning how to DJ but also my compulsion to challenge myself, get out of my comfort zone try new things etc. Was able to find the place but yeah i didn't exactly stay there a long time as the music just wasn't for me.

now i get what @thirdform was on about when he said those kind of tunes just don't have the "funk" in them there was a bit more in the acid techno stuff but otherwise its flat and fucking hell i'm normally not picky about mixing but its like they just direct EVERYTHING into the kick drum and anything else ontop is a suggestion, reminds me of black metal where bass is just non existant and its all up in the guitar. Unrelenting and pretty much the samey and fucking hell you can feel that thing in your chest.

Tried to just sit at the back and bop my head along and that felt like a stuggle on some "i know i'm not offbeat but why is this such a struggle?"

also another instance where i go to a rave and somebody asks me to help them with something because they think i'm part of the staff(and they were black aswell) it must be the headphones i got on fuck knows

Anyways i decided to leave since i felt like i had enough and just by chance the man himself was about to go in,nice man had a good chat he understood where i was coming from and said he'd been to this place before and generally found it cold so i told him maybe next time i'll be able to catch him.

A nice ender on kind of a dissapointing night but one more story to add to the pages of my life, what do i do next i wonder?

I say this though walking back to Blackhorse Road at 2 in the morning when there's nobody about its just you and the silence its nice, good peace of mind where its just you the wind the flats way in the distance and the odd taxi cab still trundling along trying to get patrons back home

have this on my mind don't know why as i don't particularly like it (worst beat on the album produced by Kanye aswell)
probably because that new Blackstar album came out (its middling just like the first album was in all honesty) but i think "The New Danger vs Electric Circus" might be the next big music related thread coming from me, either that or i just make it a thing that me and @shakahislop do in our designated ting

yeah a lot of the tunes of that whole new wave of big warehouse contemporary techno are just too crypto-trance but without the cheesy melodies. You think it's going to sound amazing before you actually go to a rave because of the high production values but actually it ends up overcompensating. Things need to be a bit loosely mixed to really have the funk in a good techno tune, things have gotta swing, the hi hats, claps and rides just have to do as much work as the kickdrum cos its fundamentally much more rhythmic and jacking. Whereas in trance and affiliated genres that space is filled by the arpeggios.

I like intense and unrelenting like the really fast hard midwest and cologne acid I'm into, but I need something to follow on from that, that's why I'm such a big fan of Jerome Hill, he fully injects his techno sets with oldskool hardcore energy and tight hip hop mixing.

Full respect to the london acid crews for doing their thing but I'm just not so into linear trancey builders.

Fully agreed. A lot of the very hyped industrial hard techno coming out of my home town (copenhagen) seem to lack any sense of rhythm and are hardly danceable to me. I believe a great deal of the producers are ex-punk types, so maybe that's why.

YEAH that would do it, even "dance-punk" i find has often emphasised the punk part more than the dance
