skipped prediction tablet because i didn't feel i was ready for it (based on what i've heard about it). although i do love the opening lines.

i think this is quite a good book. not as good as i would like it to be but good enough that nobody that reads it is clever enough to understand it

it's not, in fact, difficult to understand. but you need to know how to read, which is not an intellectual exercise but one of opening your nerve-set

It’s really fucking good I just wasn’t going to mention that until I reread it because I expect it’ll be even better the second time around.

youre probably the only person i know that is clever enough to realise its good. but prynne says you only need one reader. one mvuent is enough to justify the project.

I had a whale of a time just reading it out loud quite quickly without stopping to wonder what it's about, especially the first two in the book.

Was reading some Prynne the other day - something totally incomprehensible - but found if I read it out loud with complete confidence, acting as if I did understand it completely, then I kind of did understand it, at least on some level.

I think that reading technique is good for a lot of seemingly difficult/ incomprehensive stuff. Just read it out and let it do its thing on you (if it has anything to offer).

Yeah, I think it's more energetic than Prynne in that way (but his stuff is so varied it's hard to generalise about him).

The hovis boy legs akimbo and Gavin you div still make me lol now

one thing about luke is he's never actually read a single page of Prynn. he's just smoked a load of skunk and amalgamated the words into his own demonology.

I think he's raided Prynne's pantry for tasty effects but they're not actually that similar overall imo. So you're kind of inadvertently right in a way, even though you've got no idea what you're on about. Well done lol

I reckon thridform would really relate to this book if he actually bothered to read it, it's often very corrosive

Heavily ironic stuff, horrified, bitter but funny

"serenity obligation"

"Later in Antwerp, we will remember
the death-drive always disguised as Eros, always as
life and laughing
how foolish these mortals be."

"last chance at HAPPINESS walk this way
bent back elbow grease walk this way you like it smile
shine grateful for the opportunity can't be choosers"

"Wikipedia entry is your gateway to
this knowledge, sip the nectar and speak only sweetness
hummingbird, tilt the flower-cup, drink.
mucoid river in its trough/oily rainbows/dolphins,
seals/why can't we be happy
all the time?"

"crybaby lamentation not fair I don't make the rules."

"how we decide what already happened"

You do have to mention Burroughs and Brass-era Prynne as points of reference, but they're both quite old now, this is an update on that in many ways to me. It's concerned with how we are controlled, and littered with all the detritus of modern life, especially post-internet (from the perspective of a person of a certain age, maybe not someone who grew up with the internet).
