they used to be a way of signalling you were on the fringes of society, and now it's kind of the opposite. love island contestants etc... a different kind of status symbol now and one that fits alongside whitened teeth and fake tan

but I guess their prevalence is also a result of society becoming more accepting of superficial differences which is a good thing

like I'd imagine most employers have changed their attitudes towards them rather than having a no-hire policy to anyone with tattoos like they probably used to

but then again that's part of what made them meaningful before, so something's been lost of course

i'm not picking a fight with anybody

its just to me "normies" speaks to a kind of kneejerk nerd reactionary way of thinking, a spite that stems from the old days of "nerd culture" back when those things didn't have much in terms of monitary value.

Old cultural wars of trying to prove "them" wrong that whatever music/film/game is actually a work of real art and focus that these imaginary adversaries can't and don't want to understand. The belief that their outsiders rejected from "polite" society waiting for the right time to strike or work their way up to the top to prove them wrong and that their right.

Also of course this old standby idea that there's anything resembling a "normality" when its utter tripe there is no such thing

probably there's also stick and poke tattoos aswell and not to mention certain specific tats and scarification that mean different things to different cultures or groups. Changing attitudes do factor but also once a thing gets absorbed and recognised by the monoculture it gets regurgitated as a marketing tool, sold to the yute dem who think that they're smarter better thinkers than everybody else who don't realise that they're giving their money back to the same kind of people they believe they're rebelling against.

"Best selling single of the week, though. No. 1 in Sales Chart, Downloads Chart and Indie Chart, outselling Kate Bush, Lady Gaga and Harry Styles! The sales figures for Prince Andrew Is A Sweaty Nonce show 11,898 downloads, more than double that of the song in second place, Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill which featured in the Netflix drama Stranger Things (4084 downloads), and over 3 times as much as the song in third, Lady Gaga's Hold My Hand from the new Top Gun movie."
