I used to have one of those ‘magazine tapes’ released by the Hafler Trio, where they compiled extracts from documentaries about nuclear weapons and interviews with necrophiles, and one of the recordings was Sam Fox on LBC, articulately defending herself against women callers accusing her of being a degenerate bimbo.

Well this pretty much perfectly encapsulates the ethos of the one-hit wonder; the artist responsible for a single impeccable pop tune, who then sank into obscurity and was never heard from again.

Anyway, I need to need to say this again, and it is my fault cos I wasn't clear enough - either in my own head or in what I wrote - but I do NOT want suggestions of electropop here... I DO want electro with a pop sensibility. Or perhaps best described as a pop musician hearing electro on the radio and deciding to have a poptastic crack at it.

I don't mean to be ungrateful for all the excellent obscure electropop suggestions I'm receiving. These will no doubt be filed away for use somewhere, but they don't fit into my nonexistent new genre.

OK, so this surely count as

electro with a pop sensibility.

But I've looked it up and apparently it wasn't even Eddy Grant's biggest hit in this country, so maybe fails on the 1HW criterion.
