I don't know what sex offender registries are like across the pond, but here in the States they're something awful, exacerbated by the collapse of an enormous range of crimes into one registry.

You can get on the registry for pissing in public, if an officer of the law is in the mood to write you one. Now you can't live within a certain radius of schools or other public institutions; when you move into a neighborhood all your neighbors are notified. A kind of scarlet letter. How do you give people information without shaming? Hard to say. Of course, if you were abusing little girls, I've got no sympathy for you. But lesser crimes, that can stick with you for decades—you're 20 and have sex with a 17 year old, or you piss in public, or hell, you download some kiddy porn. Watching kiddy porn, well—all the evidence points to pedophilia being as unchosen as other sexualities; participating in the kiddy porn economy seems bad, but it's just not the same as being an abuser, is it? If there were good CGI kiddy porn I'm not sure I'd be opposed, legally—would be good to do some empirical work on how it affects crime rates, but I think it's far from clear it would increase abuse—equally good chance it decreases. Would be a shame for our disgust reactions and prejudices to get in the way of good old consequentialist win-wins.

Ah, it now makes sense to me. I was pronouncing it arse-o-lo-jee when really it should be pronounced ar-see-o-lo-jee

So an arse specialist and roadside intercourse aficionado travels to a remote dig site just to occasion a moderately clever word joke?

Preposterous.

By the way, Roadside Intercourse Aficionados share an acronym with Registered Investment Advisors, a coincidence permitting the possibility of kinky dog whistles among high society debauchees.

“Brice, glad to have run into you here. I’m told you may know a good RIA, one with extensive travel experience…”

if you're watching it, you're monetarily encouraging someone else to abuse children on film for your gratification. maybe a slight degree below actually doing the abusing, but pretty damn close.
Not at all

Do you eat meat?

Is some of the meat from factory farms?

Do you string up cows and slit their throats? Do you put chickens 12 to a cage so they're pecking out each others eyes?

Nevermind that lots of CP watched/consumed is not purchased, so the link is much weaker than your link to heinous animal abuse every time you pick up a hamburger

The hypocrisy on this forum! As if we do not all sin!

I could start posting factory farm insider vids that would make you spew

Yet you sit down and munch happily on your 5 Guys cheeseburger, your Shake Shack!

There is a difference, and it's real, and we shouldn't all put our heads into the sand and pretend it isn't. Let alone once we start getting into CGI territory. Wash is just messing, so I don't take it personal, but I really have no interest in a thread where we all get on our high horses and virtue signal about shit we don't know shit about.

Read up and develop some empathy
Prof Derek Perkins is a consultant forensic psychologist and has set up treatment programmes for sexual offenders. "It's a recognised mental disorder and it's something that people don't choose to have. It's a condition in the same way that someone might have depression or ADHD. "A lot of people are able to manage it without acting on it." By the time Adam got to 17, he'd spent four years trying to ignore his feelings about children. Realising this wasn't something he would grow out of, he decided to try to "solve it". When he talks about this time in his life, the word he uses most is "scared".
One of the most significant findings is that scientists who study the disorder say pedophilia is determined in the womb, though environmental factors may influence whether someone acts on an urge to abuse. "The evidence suggests it is inborn. It's neurological," said James Cantor, a clinical psychologist, sex researcher and former editor-in-chief of, "Sexual Abuse: A Journal of Research and Treatment. ..."I think as a field, we've accepted the idea that this is not something that people choose," Seto said.
The best estimates are that between 1% and 5% of men are pedophiles, meaning that they have a dominant attraction to prepubescent children... Other pedophiles are “good people who are struggling,” said Dr. Fred Berlin, a psychiatrist who heads the Johns Hopkins Sexual Behaviors Consultation Unit. “They’re tortured souls fighting like heck not to do this. We do virtually nothing in terms of reaching out to these folks. We drive it underground.”

Many jurisdictions have passed mandatory reporting regulations for psychologists and other health care providers. Consequently, when someone who thinks he might be a pedophile comes in for counseling or therapy, the psychologist may be compelled by law to report the person to the authorities. That, of course, can lead to loss of the person’s job, family, and everything else. So, these people have simply stopped coming in at all, and instead of getting help to them, we now have pedophiles circulating in society receiving no support at all.
Therapists have been attempting to turn pedophiles into non-pedophiles for a very long time, but no one has presented any objective evidence of any enduring change in sexual interests. People can learn self-control, people can take sex-drive-reducing medications, and people can learn how to live more healthy and productive lives, but we do not appear to be able to change the pedophilia itself.
Think "conversion therapy"

Let's Talk About Ceps
I imagine the argument against legalising CGI child porn is that it could be seen by someone whose desires in that direction had until then been dormant or at least heavily suppressed, and thereby make them more likely to actually want to do something like that in real life.

I don't know if that's how this kind of psychology actually works, but it at least sounds plausible to me.

id say the better argument is that kids will inevitably see it

didn't figure you to resort to whataboutism, no one here is defending factory farms. FF and CP can both be heinous, they aren't mutually exclusive.
