The Heavy

saw guttersnipe this weekend, still reeling a bit but probably one of the heaviest things i've seen. absolutely painful and unpleasant sound, all harsh high end played at high volume, but nevertheless somehow an appealing thing to be around, a transmission of energy or something

saw someone called MICROCORPS as well. it sounded apocalyptic in the flesh, just low end and nothing else at all. at the start it looked ridiculous, some weirdo in a hoodie pulled up by the drawstring so you could only see his eyes, making a racket to about five people, but there was a lot there once you got into it. basically just rhythmic non-4 to the floor heavy bass that went on forever, a sort of pounding thing going on, and gradually the tent filled up and people got properly into it. doesn't seem to translate on the recordings i can find at all, sounds weedy.

checked out microcorps, and sounds nice, very dungeon synthy cavernous type of heavy but at the same time those pulsing overdrives are very acidy.
also sounds like he likes errorsmith but he would call him too frivolous.

will give that lp a properly listen and, then probably another one on 1.5x speed. so far sped up the pulse is more obvious and the timeline doesn't feel messy yet so might be an interesting experience.

after further speeding up - can now tell like it's actually very heavily influenced by flashcore, similar sound palette, mood

also very many times I have replayed this casette, probably one of the first tunes I posted on dissensus (which wasn't such a long time ago)

no shame in recommending it again as it is definitely one of the heaviest mixes on earth. those drums, too. holy shit.
has groove too which is a bit offtopic but that only makes it better.

also +1 for a visual aesthetic that doesn't look like shit

this has that heavy thing going on. the screaming is convincing and there's some chaotic/controlled feedback. sludge remains a favourite for me. actually to be honest everything else that's heavy gets measured against sludge and doom for me. artwork is embarrassing again.

seeing steven o malley on saturday at a metal bar. i guess with that stuff the mystery is gone, it's not hard to go and see very loud guitar drone, but hoping i can tune into it on the night and that place (st vitus) is always on point atmosphere-wise.

just saw them last night at FOLD, good good set, there was a very fun bit that person did between tracks which sounded like a dj backspin, unfortunately it got pretty old after the third time.
good vox and also very audible and MUSICAL modular knob twiddling which I enjoyed a lot.
only thing is with something so monotonous I would prefer smooth transitions between tracks instead of going into a noisy granular wormhole each time, idk if it could be due to technical constraints of the setup or some other reason

followed by nik cold void which again, was, HEAVY

slow things are heavy cos heavy things move slowly. slow and deep are linked cos pitch descends as you slow down the speed.
with my current knowledge about signal processing and psychoacoustics (questionable), I can confirm

also, honorable mention to microcorps visuals, in contrast to most of the visuals during the night which were not so great (apart from void's which was presenting a wall of colourful analog noise), were very elegant.
long shots of peeking through some bushes and other kinds dense flora, very vulptous/predatory/thiller type of footage
shot on a camcorder but somehow the colour palette was a little bit twisted, giving it quite an ethereal feeling to it

Let's Talk About Ceps

OTOH, Slayer etc.

Ignore (or glory in) the ludicrous sleeve art, but this is a great heavy cover of JJ Cale's 'Cocaine':
