The Forumverse

bandz ahoy
Was chatting with a mate last night who was very amused by memories of my 'celebrity' on dubstepforum

He said he had posted on a forum about weed called 420 world or something many years ago

Forums have always been a very nerdy minority thing, but they've been a huge part of my life since I was 20 (probably even younger)

What other forums are out there? Are forums dying out or plugging along?

What is the most popular forum in the world? (Other than Reddit.)

it comes up a lot on here for one reason or another, not sure why, but this is the dissensus of the guinea pig world

the glastonbury part of efestivals is a fairly active forum full of utter mentalists

Forums are on the upswing, which you see with platforms like Discourse

They're much more Web 2.0-ey though—and often integrated within a larger suite of chat features. My company has raised about 200mil on the idea of a blockchain-integrated forum, roughly. But more sophisticated polling features, instant chat, more complex text editors, tacked on.

can you do some pro-bono work for dissensus? then you can feature us on the case study/success stories page of your company's website and investor relations materials. you can brag about how you dragged us kicking and screaming out of 2004.

A few business development people are maybe more enthusiastic about crypto than I would find reasonable, but that's part of their jobs, and it makes them better at their jobs. Self-fulfilling prophecies and all

Engineering team is incredibly grounded when it comes to separating hype from actual tech potential. And our product isn't about "crypto" so much as it's about building good community governance and community tools.

I used to go on a record collector forums originally called Vnyl Vulture, later Verygoodpus. I guess I dipped into DJHistory every now and again.

One that intrigued me a little - though @DannyL can certainly tell you a lot more about it than me is/was called Barbelith. To me it appeared somewhat similar to dissensus in that they discussed books, art, film, culture and politics I think, on, as far as I could tell, a level that was not hugely different from that we benefit from here - albeit with something of a different emphasis no doubt. The main difference however was a subforum about magick that I suppose was central to the purpose of the forum in the way that music is at least in theory, is over here

What's this about? What do you mean by celebrity in this instance?
