They know they're fucked at the next election so they're treating the country like a fire sale.

Funny if this stuff about no confidence letters already being submitted is true.
It still took about a hundred years to get rid of Johnson via that route so I wouldn't get your hopes up. I am wondering what crisis might be sufficiently bad to force a general election.

I find it hard to believe. I don't see who else there is. Today I saw people on twitter asking "Do you think the 81,000 feel pretty stupid?" and my first thought was that it can't really count as a mistake if there was no better choice.

I think if there was another leadership election he would stand... and if he stood I reckon he would have a reasonable chance of winning. I wouldn't be at all surprised if some of those who sent letters or resigned voted for him. I hope that happens, I want to see people who the other day were so convinced that he lacked the character to lead their party that they had to send a letter demanding that he stepped down immediately explaining why they believe that he has now changed so utterly that it is vital that he leads the country.

I don't like him, but Sunak was a better choice.

its my opinion that i read the news yesterday and i thought my god, there all as bad as each other... but what if that madman in the krenlim flips the switch next thing you know its goodbye maralago and those documents will be classified in perpetuity. then i got up and played a couple of frames for practice, something to do while my partner mills wheat in the low country paying off her dowry.

The thing with Thick Lizzy is that I have no confidence in her whatsoever and I don't think anyone else does either. So when she says "I'm sticking to my course, it's the right thing to do" it doesn't for one second cross my mind - as it may have done in the past with other PMs - that she is somehow privy to some kind of extra knowledge that we don't have and that there is something that might move the economy in the right direction. I don't think that she has any reason for saying that, her plan is nothing beyond blindly hoping that it will somehow be ok and that things will work out. And she thinks changing course will maker her look even stupider. Which is sort of right in that people will say that it was clear evidence she didn't know what she was doing at first... cos she didn't.

As a former Bilderberg Group economist and Times Rich List city trader, can you please explain to us mortals what the fuck is going on?

I dunno. As I understand it, the government announced a so-called mini-budget last week that did nothing to address the real concerns of the majority of people but which gave money that the country can't afford to a small group of the richest people. So it seems that the main strategy of the government going forward appears to be to borrow money and give it to rich people - and as that's really stupid the pound collapsed.

Increasing interest rates can make the pound more attractive (cos if you can borrow euros at 4 percent, change them to pounds and lend them at 5 percent lots of people will) so people are talking about the BofE raising interest rates to save the pound from the Tories' idiocy but problem is, if you're poor and owe money then higher interest rates fuck you from the other direction.

Truss keeps saying her strategy is the right one and she'll stick to it but it obviously isn't. Their apologists in the press are saying the pound has collapsed cos the second they announced the mini-budget the markets started fearing Starmer getting in but that is also ridiculous. It feels like a fight between the Tories and reality.
