In the US people obviously in their middle ages get carded, is it not common for you guys?

When I was 18, a 30-year old bloke in a pub told me, "I thought you was my age?"
I never had problems getting served in pubs at 16 if I was on my own and/or with someone clearly older. Not the case if I went in with other 16-year olds, especially if they were singing the line from On A Ragga Tip and talking loudly about the girls they wanted to shag.

I've been carded in New Orleans for drinks and fags in my '30s, but America's weird like that - I was also forbidden from drinking more than five beers at some bar in Houston in case I got drunk, crashed into a state trooper and then tried to sue the establishment for poisoning my mind (I'm not pulling that out of the air, the owner actually explained it). Just before Xmas last year, though, I bought some disposable razors at the Boots in Luton Airport and the girl asked me if I had ID. I was wearing a mask, so maybe I have youthful eyes, but the face of an old cunt?
Also, just before Covid (43), I bowled through an open ticket machine on the tube and the guard said, "Less speed, young man"?? (he looked my age).

Anyway, toss-up between 3 and 4.

People pretty much always think that I am younger than I am. Normally by three, sometimes even four years.
But in fact I think that's the story of my life. Unlike you @martin I definitely did not look old enough to get a beer until ages after I was well and truly allowed. I never noticed this - I'm not observant at all - until one day at school someone made a remark about how my voice hadn't broken and I suddenly listened properly and realised that I was the only squeaky voiced one. And soon after I remember going to the dentist and he made some remark in passing about how the development of my teeth was immature and silently I was cut to the quick as I realised that I was this weird freak who had been left behind by everyone in terms of development in every single way.

People generally think I'm younger than I am and I used to put it down to being childless. But I'm a dad now, and I don't seem to have aged dramatically in the last three years, so I guess I'm just lucky.

Fresh externally, remarkably just a bit of salt n pepper hair which isn’t even thinning. My hands are battered. Something‘s gotta give though. I can walk all day, bike half of all journeys but previously perverse levels of drug taking catches up with anyone eventually

A beard can put a few years on but I love a Turkish shave at the local barber. They razor cut your hair too, zero scissors, looking sharp and their establishment next door does all day Turkish breakfasts so you roll from one to t’other

what kind of implications are you thinking about mvuent?
guess i don't exactly know how to explain it. but i would have bet money on the poll results turning out like they have. just seems like the average user here would shirk burdensome adult responsibilities and live in a sort of extended adolescence as much as possible. and it could be nonsense but you can imagine that could have a physical effect.

i often think it's the other way around. i often had the feeling that people took me less serious than my peers, or had less expectations of me, because of looking younger. and i would then grow into that role.

that's certainly more reasonable and maybe similar to what rich was saying. in my case i don't think i looked especially young for my age as a kid; it really wasn't until the past few years that people started consistently acting surprised when they found out how old i was. probably has to do with context too though, w/ my working jobs where a lot of the other people are teenagers/college students or retirees.
