"Thought is the enemy of flow"

i dont beileve that

Well, you're an idealist (read: conservative) and reject science.

Not even attacking you. It's just true.

I think if Liz Truss wants to hold onto power she should have you in her cabinet. You both exhibit the same tendancies.

I think it's true. Self-consciousness can be a killer, like looking down while walking a tightrope.

You're not conscious of a range of functions eg everything working through your cerebellum. Could you reduce jazz or Bergkamp to maths, like number of practice sessions? Something deeper and much more profound is at play. 2 people picked his goals. Chance?

@thirdform thought this was the viberational thread so I'll leave the reply for posterity

self-consciousness and thought are not the same thing. are you guys being thick on purpose today?

Of course Bergkamp or jazz can't be broken down to mathematics alone within the orbit of a free improv performance or in the game, but their primary foundation is mathematical practice. And practice requires thought. Otherwise it would be random and lack causal narritive.

To say thought is the enemy of flow is to make out flow to be a mystical, intangible religious quality rather than flow itself being a product of thought.

Documentary climber with no amygdala seemed to access flow when his route had been worked out = practice, less foundational hesitancy, probably hemisphere balanced ie route planning could be left brain tasks while weather and holistic perspective right brain but without an active fear centre your typical crowd of concerned mental citizens was barely present with him. Severe ptsd might be the opposing take, rupture, doubt, hyper-vigilance as pre-emptive hesitancy

@pattycakes_ @padraig (u.s.) and @CranerSnr are 3 I recall/know delve into such percussive realms, what's the crack?

I think they are for the purposes of this conversation. I don't think the original quote is about literally any sort of activity in the brain. I think it's specifically to do with being in the moment and not at a remove and consciously processing it, e.g. dancing rather than worrying how you look dancing.

i've never thought in my life and nor have any of you. i know this for a fact.

It's true. I'm just an impression of your mind driving you insane. You overindulged in psychedelics and now you can't get rid of me, despite the fact I don't exist.

flow is just the latest monetised lifestylist bullshit trend isnt it? the concept that you can somehow get in a "state" where you have unbridled access to creativity, it's like the endpoint for all the drivel about personal optimisation and life-management (which is nothing but toxic and exploitative),
are you living your best life, then where is your flow?
if you don't got one then you must get off instagram, and if you can trap and exploit your flow then you will be rewarded with social megaprosperity, no?
