Jerusalem is genuinely one of the greatest destinations in the world. combination of violence, politics, and extremely odd subcultures going on in the old city. whole thing is cut in half by a massive wall which if you're a foreigner you can move fairly freely from side to side of. central sites of three massive religions all in one square mile in the middle. ongoing terrorism and murder. day to day tension. religious nutters coming for tourism from all over the shop, but particularly christians with quite heavy delusions, i seem to meet a load of them there. you can sleep on rooftops in the summer. sometimes it snows. you can walk over some of the rooftops in the old city and no-one stops you, climbing up little ladders. you wake up to the call to prayer and churchbells in the morning. there's nuns wandering about. you can walk on the city walls.

tel aviv is only a bit interesting, mainly to see that the heart of the israeli state is also a sexy party land, with burgers and those little shorts that girls wear
