Gives quite a lot of props to 'showtime' too which I keep meaning to go back to but always find a bit dense.

its actually the better album in a lot of ways i.e. face

a lot of hip hop though

Dizzee giving up production still seems like such a fucking waste. No one ever really topped beats like 'stop dat', 'wheel', 'vexed' 'i luv u' did they?.

production wise, bidc beats showtime. i think showtime is a good album, esp in terms of rapping - its prob his best showcase as an MC (just listen to respect me or stand up tall even), but its kind of a chore/slog to get through. its like dizzee was really trying to be overly sober and dark. the sonics got 'better', but theres just less happening in most of the beats compared to the first album. obv theres stand up tall, girls, and a few others, but all those jabbing little sounds and strange change ups were all gone. its all spare (and a bit boring at times really). showtime is actually the dizzee album i would recommend to dubstep (as in old dubstep) fans.

To me the glaring omissions from that FACT fireside chat are 'Get By' and 'Do it'. It surprises me when people always talk about 'Brand New Day' when they should be talking about 'Do it' with it's better production and lyrics.

dunno if you ever saw the documentary that was on channel 4 around the time of maths n english but it had a lot of old dizzee beats playing through it. its a crime he released so little of them when he could have done. wiley should have made him put them out! i find it hard to believe its been 10 years since BIDC. its a shame he still seems hung up on it not being as successful as he wanted it to be.

I saw the second half of the Dizzee documentary, forgot to tape the Roll Deep anti-gun crime one though. I remember there was a studio bod in the former who was presumably an engineer on some of Dizzee's Stuff and I think he produced 'Just a rascal'- for years I thought this man was Cage but then I saw a photo of him and it turns out he's white. No idea who he was.

The next compilation CD should be E3 allstars, collect some of the rare Wiley, Dizzee, Target, Danny Weed productions... XTC Vs Misty Cold

taz produced jus a rascal iirc (he had a deal with def jam for a bit too)

brand new day and sittin here are musically but i always found them a little bit too adolescent (like, yeah, its deep for a teenager, but not so much for someone older) lyrically.

There's a radio 1 documentary on iplayer called The Story of Dizzee Rascal, haven't listened but the description mentions Boy in da Corner so it might be decent.
