Does anyone have any opinions on the best late period Coil project which has songs on it? I love Black Antlers and Music to Play in the Dark. Are there any albums as good as those? I would love to hear it. I'm talking albums with songs, not long drone-style things (which I also like but still)
I'd say the live album, And the Ambulance Died in His Arms. Similar nocturnal autumnal feel to MTPITD.

The collected solstice EPs as well, Moons Milk. Some very abstract stuff on there but beautiful song based stuff as well eg White Rainbow, beestings, the original version of amythyst deceivers which is by far the best version

Christopherson’s projects

Cyclobe are more experimental, UnicaZürn similar terrain but there’s so much to listen to with both. Cyclobe‘s The Blue and the Green is a monster track but can’t find audio (off Luminous Darkness). Queen Elizabeth with Cope and TSP have more than enough moments too

THE ABRAHADABRA LETTERS
John Balance
2nd. 2021 136pp Korm Plastics 4to hardback. Illustrated throughout. Pictorial boards. NEW.
From 1984 to 1988 Anthony Blokdijk frequently visited Threshold House in London and corresponded with John Balance of COIL about playing live, releasing music and personal affairs. This book collects scans of Balance's original handwritten letters, including idiosyncratic decorative flourishes and provides insight into his colourful world. Also included are two articles on Coil from Blokdijk's Abrahadabra magazine, and an interview with Coil he conducted for the Dutch magazine Opscene.

male pale and stale
was the place in Chiswick called Threshold House in the 80s? I only went there once, so stake no claim really. But I don’t remember that especially.

Historification. “Just dropped round to see the lads at Threshold House, then down the road for some pints of absinthe at Bar Maldoror…”

Woozy, weaving, insecticide lounge trips

Now you've absorbed it into your system
Now that you've allowed it to be true
Now that you've neutralised it, made it safe, made it yours
Now that you've been photographed, recorded
What are you gonna do?
What are you gonna do?

Yeah love that one. I like that lyric "what are you gonna do, when they don't believe you?" Cos it seems to be about the liberating power of not being believed. Like if others don't think you're true you can really do anything, you're free and off off away on your own.

My mind is not elastic, more like a liquid that cats retch up in death moments…Can you please and persuade Mr Morris to do this Coil mix I mentioned. Some versions do strangely enough have a considerable commercial attraction. We’d like a 20-minute plus space Versailles type thing. It used to have the working title of “Kate Busy as she should have been.” This doesn’t help really. Your Scanner mix – if you want to come over and abuse the Mac then you’re welcome to see how little we actually know about these darned machines ourselves.”

cheese and wafting grooves, one of a minority where I don’t know if I like it

the more it drifts into exotica/lounge the more coherent it seems and it sounds better slightly unhinged around the edges
