Creative Genius at Walkers

Great thread, this.

Current fave crisps - original flavour Doritos, salt n vinegar flavour Square crisps.

Favourite walkers flavour is Prawn Cocktail, which I know is bizarre.

Niks Naks changed their recipe, lower fat, bit more cardboardy, not as mouth scouring.

Fucking bunch of shits what these fucking people are doing to the fucking world.

Darned cockwombles.
salt n vinegar flavour Square crisps.

These'd get my vote for best crisp ever. Part of it must be nostalgia, but they're still mighty fine.

is any other country even half as obsessed by crisps as the UK? it's a big part of the culinary heritage

Not made by walkers but I had some Tom yum cashew nuts just now they were delicious and avant-garde

Ireland, if the Tayto cult is anything to go by.

I questioned the supremacy of the Tayto while being driven by an Irish pal.
He skidded to a stop in a lay by, undid his seatbelt the better to lean over and yell at me, and delivered a well-rehearsed speech on the lines of:

It is possible to have a bad pack of Taytos. Nothing terribly wrong with them. Just below par. That never happens with Walkers.

We drove on in silence.

Hate Taytos with a passion but that might be due to their association with a complete and utter cunt I used to work with. Every time he went back home to his parents in NI(which was often), he would return with a pack of Taytos to 'share' in the office.

The way he talked about these substandard crisps, like they were some sort of unheralded delicacy, was unbearable. He actually beamed with pride and stared at us as we sampled them, as if we were about to undergo the Rapture.

I just remember vaguely stale crisps with a very distant cheese tang, though the 'taste' was probably just some oral placebo, cos it said 'cheese' on the packet.

Taytos to Walkers is like Space Raiders to Monster Munch. The austere protestant version.

You have NEVER been so wrong about anything.

Walkers are OK - consistent, but their C&O flavour have a very artificial, chemical undertone. Tayto's are far more flavourful. The best mass produced cheese & onion crisp in the world, followed closely (and occasionally surpassed) by King.

Walkers are Vicar's crisps. (They do have the best worcester sauce flavour though, no contest.)

I rate the oiliness of the tayto. That greasiness has been bred out of the English crisp over the last 15 years

If you can afford the extra expense then walkers sensation range cheese and onion is great. Very cheesey

Seabrooks did a good oily crisp - crinkle-cut, too - last time I checked. Their roast ox flavour is sublime, salt and pepper good too. Garlic and herb are nice but I suspect they turn you into a walking chemical weapon.

Any love for Hula-Hoops here?
Plain obvsly.

Haven't they shrunk? Like Monster Munch, the pleasure in eating them comes mainly from putting them on your finger tips and then consuming them one by one directly from your digits. But I have a vague fear they may be too small to do that now.
