Why when learning a new instrument, need one suffer years of being taught shit easy tunes. Why not start with a wicked difficult tune instead and just spend a bit longer to learn something one would actually want to play to people?

Grades 1-7 are a racket, I tell ya.

One thing I've kinda half-heartedly wondered for about twenty years, every time it comes up again I suppose, but never enough to do anything about... what is the meaning of "known as a half-step but yours is a full climb"? Some sort of dance moves? Or my guess, it doesn't mean anything but it just sounds kinda cool.

i might make a rip of it and put it up here. i'm absolutely sure someone will know it. it doesn't really matter, i've been rinsing the tape and historically have found that when i "find" something, i simultaneously lose all interest in it. i would appreciate someone explaining to me why that is. i think cos it means the chase (and associated excitement) has come to an end?

Maybe the original source will clarify things?

My guess: you might refer to someone who's flirting with you with no intention of moving things to the next stage as half-stepping. This girl is so cold that it's a full climb

what is this tune called? what type of music is this? from what region?

at about 2:10 something magical happens, it's already been an arms in the air affair but even the moody guys at the back start smiling when the crushing one note synth attempts to override the relentless rhythm - and then the video stops. Where can I find more like what is going at the end of this video?

another clip of the tune being played to an enthusiastic crowd:

I'm guessing it may be a traditional melody or some sort of standard because somehow I have found clips of it being performed by different people:

I love the repetitive bass pulse, and the clickety-clackety simulated handclaps relentlessly pecking away, it ends up sounding like a cross between kosmiche, dub techno, dancehall, ska, spaghetti western and morrocan sufi "trance" to my ears

as demonstrated in this clip you can whoop or chant along to it if you want:

teasing the crowd with low frequencies for a minute, building them up for the drop..

It's the bits like in the following clip I'm really after - synth and drum machine style, punishing rhythm, building intensity

what search terms should I be using to find more?

Sudanese, you hear it at weddings a lot, it's called Tarab which is a classical style of arabic music. There is an Egyptian version called Mahragan.

Is this the question you were asking?
