Gorrit . . . seems like its based on another reggae track which was based on a mento track.

http://www.noradean.com/other.htm

"Miss Annie Oh
(Produced by F. Christian, 1972. Only available on a 45 RPM single, released on La-Fud-Del.)
This self-composed Nora Dean reggae track is winner from the lovely sax and trumpet refrain that opens and closes the track. Like in the old mento song, "Hog In Me Minty", Miss Annie is having trouble with her coco field. But unlike the mento song, where a hog destroys the sweet-potato-like coco, Nora spots a man stealing coco.

.............."

badman tune still

Nitty Gritty - Hog in a de minty

probably misheard lyrics
'Hog in a de minty,
minty minty cocoa,'

but what is this refering to ?

'him a root out ya coco'.

As mentioned, bascially a reference to a pig coming along and fucking up your garden, and the coco isnt 'cocoa', but some kinda tuber that grows underground like a yam.

^^ I always thought it was pronounced bail_eh.

So what's halfstep in dubstep? Is it the tempo or the placement of the snare or kick ?

and what other steps are there?
twostep in garage
?

Pestario

tell your friends
halfstep = tunes with the snare (or dominant snare) on the 3rd beat so it sounds like the it's running at half tempo

EDIT: 2step = where the beat goes like this... kick, snare, (air), kick-snare . So instead of the kick being on the 3, it's shifted back half a measure to get that swing feel. The name comes from it having two parts or 'steps' to it (i think).
