questions you are dying to ask but are too scared to b/c of music nerd cred?

anyone recognize what this riff is from I really recognize it, just at the beginning of this. I'm sure it was in some recent electronic release

im looking for a 2step tune - might even be an R'n'B refix, dunno. but it's classic era 2 step - only thing i remember about it were the lyrics:

"told you that i want you back i feel the same and i dont know what to do"

"so I gots to keep it ready and I gots to keep it moving"

anyone??

alex

Do not read this.
think that's pinch feat. yolanda, get up

EDIT* it probably isn't that. you are gonna have to give us more than that, that could be about 100 different r & b remixes

naah it aint that, cheers tho alex.

yeah when i was typing it out i realised i was being fucking useless. the chorus is that second bit "so I gots to keep it ready and I gots to keep it moving" and i cant really think of any more than that.

I've been told that Ableton Live started out as Robert "Monolake" Henke's Max/MSP patch. Is this true and - if so - does that mean he's super rich now?

Remember reading this, it's a really good article

Awesome to see the full transcript of that article. He does talk (a little evasively) about his relationship with Ableton but I don't see anything about the relationship between Max and Live. Obviously, the existence of Max for Live suggests that Max is (or was) the basis for Live but I'd like to know more about how the relationship between the two platforms has developed over the years.

you can sort of see the relationship just from the UI of ableton, the number boxes, dials etc are all the same as Max/MSP. I'm pretty sure I remember seeing a picture of the early max patches of ableton prototypes. It sort of makes sense though I think, before ableton max/msp was one of the main platforms for "live" laptop electronica stuff, and people have used it alot for prototyping.

Are you saying it's common for music software developers to prototype features in Max before creating the real versions using actual coding languages?

I couldnt say whether its common to be honest but I know its done. Its been used in the games industry also for prototyping sound effects. Things like engine noise for example which is really hard to get right considering you got to interpolate different recorded samples etc. probably in most of these cases only if there happens to be a developer who is particualr good with max though.

[speculation] I think some of it might be down to his posthumous fame so everyone is super enthusiastic for fear of being caught SHOCK only getting into it lately. [/speculation]

A lot of his contemporaries are still going and that was a fairly close knit thing afaik so that might have something to do with it.

Heading to a tribute bash here Saturday.
Last two people to get one of those here were James Brown and Phil Lynott so I guess he might just have that effect.

Ott maybe but good enough to deserve the praise he gets imo

This makes sense. I guy I know is a video games sound designer as well as a Max hacker/moderately well-known ambient electronica artist and he's told me he uses Max at work occasionally.

max/ableton etc

Hi guys...

Ableton wasn't made in max msp but large parts of it were prototyped in max.

Also on a sidenote; prototyping in max/msp is very common in the music tech industry. It's a quick and simple way to test your ideas and algorithms. A lot of jobs in this area see it as a desirable skill. Native Instruments use max for prototyping too but also use reaktor which is more or less the same skill set. NI massive started out as a reaktor synth called carbon before being coded properly.

why do japanese cds always include an obi-strip? the information on the strip is usually also on the cd cover, unless the cd has some artsy image-only graphic design.
