Amazing to me that this one is apparently one of the most read and admired cantos, not because because it isn't brilliant but how many people could have actually understood it at the time? When did all these notes get published?

scanned through the last couple of pages of this thread but it made me think it might be a good idea to read a biography of pound in order to understand some of his poetry? a lot of it references to places he was at and people he met doesn't it?

I was thinking the same. Or maybe that Hugh Kenner book

i was wondering about that when i read the RAW piece catalog put up. but i think basically we all let the eye glide over what we don't understand

I reckon it's worth just buying the big book anyway and just dive in. There's plenty of resources on the internet to get started.

it;s the same with finnegans wake. you wonder how the early interpreters were able to get started, before having to sadly acknoweldge that it is becasue they were much cleverer than you, and a lot less lazy
