And I just find phone calls awkward most of the time. So much prefer texting, even though it's probably nowhere near as nutritional.
Yeah I hate phone calls. Definitely would prefer an email to a text to a call to a video call (I hate people who want to Skype for a chat).
And I'm sure that's the sense in which Dorothy Parker was referring to it.

I loved the way they used phones in The Matrix. The constant racing to get to them in time, Morpheus directing Neo over the mobile he sends in the post.
That's what I mean though I think. There are lots of films where they've figured out how to add action, speed, tension with mobiles... but fear... I can't think of so many.

Death invented the phone it looks like the altar of death
Do not worship the telephone
It drags its worshippers into actual graves

Do not pick up the detonator of the telephone
A flame from the last day will come lashing out of the telephone
A dead body will fall out of the telephone

That new Spike Lee film on Netflix is very strange. There are war scenes that look comically amateurish. The plot is so preposterous and absurd that you keep waiting for the whole thing to be revealed as a dream or something. The score is completely rubbish. And it's two and a half hours long!

Watched a film called Alice Harvest - really dark sci-fi that is basically a mash-up of Bluebeard and Moon. Only five characters (in one sense) but I thought it was really well done. It seems to have had mixed reviews but I enjoyed it more than I expected. In a sense, once you have grasped what is going on (which will you will quite early, it's not a twist or anything) then it feels very familiar for a bit, but I thought that it kept me on my toes by always going further and nastier than I expected.

Without giving too much about it away, there's a tremendous sequence in Personal Shopper which hinges of Kristen Stewart communicating with someone/something via SMS during a ride to and from London through the chunnel. Didn't expect to see iMessage grey balloon with dots that pops up whilst the other person is typing utilised as a fearful image, much less for it to work (but maybe that's personal anxieties being reflected again...)

That was the one I could think of if you look back... although I couldn't remember exactly what happened and how. But yeah it's one of the few times where they used it successfully and scarily in a way that couldn't have been done a few years back.

That rings a bell, tell me more about it...

my mate commented that 90 percent of this movie isn't about the monster, one of the many reasons to love it. the first thing that threw me was the dubbed in sheep noises; sounded to me like it was voice actor layback. love to know the context of that creative decision, or perhaps it really was actual sheep lol anyways. it's disconcerting from the outset, and comes across unintentionally so. some great locations, love the massive rubbish heap scene.

The unofficial film about Brexit. It took a bit to “get into it”, the sound design specifically, which seemed to place it from a much older period. Not everyone’s cup of tea, but it has a sense of unease and tension in the mundane that’s exceptionally rare.

So what is it about then?

something to do with "Vapors from an ancient mine cause the birth of a huge creature that is taken to the laboratory of a local mad doctor where it grows into a monstrous 8-foot mutant sheep"? tbh, i'm not there for the premise :)
