Just a couple that I've enjoyed recently.

Red Rock West - Nicolas Cage has been in some seriously good films when I think about it and this is one of them with Dennis Hopper in there too.
The Hitcher - A Rutger Hauer film, think Duel meets The Hitch-Hiker.

Also saw Fargo this weekend it was a big weekend for movies. Wouldn't unreservedly recommend Fargo though. It was fine. It was fun. I would like more midwest portraits in my life maybe @mvuent can recommend one. But not like Solaris.

i'v never encountered such a powerful drag of deep boredom. huge undertow of boredom. it really felt like being sucked down and i resisted it manfully for maybe 40 minutes but inevitably i fell asleep. really strange encounter.

2001 had a similar effect the first 2 or 3 times i tried to watch it. now it seems easy to sit with but the first couple of times i sat there for what seemed like hours without a single line of dialogue so i had to switch it off.

Stalker is up there with The Matrix for me when it comes to cool sci-fi films so I expected to really like Solaris. I've never suceeded with any other Tarkovsky. The other one I tried was Mirror and just thought oh leave me alone. K-Punk was disappointed but I just couldn't hack it.
