video for 'three freaks'

Haha I'm interested to find out what dissensus makes of this (I think its hot). I don't want to be corny with the constant timbaland rock-crit references but it has a v. timbaland-like coda! (Whats best about it obv is that its a pretty solid Rick Rock bite.)

here is MTV's big 25 minute piece on bay area rap - interview too short, e-40, keak, jt the bigga figga, a bunch of other dudes too.

I've got Slump & Grind vols. 1 + 2 on their way to me - really looking forward to giving them plenty of spins.

3 Freaks is undeniably brilliant.

how come people aren't going absolutely berserk for e-40 and keak's tell me when to go? great video of people "ghostriding the whip" (dancing outside cars while they're STILL MOVING!!!), thizz-facing etc. actually illustrates some of the slang a lot of british people might find baffling.

... it's just too hard to find this stuff at the moment in the UK.

If I could find a 12" of Tell me When To Go, I'd be hammering it all over the shop, but I can't, so I'm not. :( Has it even been released as a single yet?

probably not but there is this thing called the internet, you know. keep it under your hat, though, I don't want everyone to find out about it...

Yup, see above for the vid. Who's the fat fella? His second thizz face is gold.

oh yeah!
dj shadow seems to have refound his belief in making proper hip hop, did you hear the mix cd he did a while back - full of this stuff and top quality crunk ..

Yeah - Funky Skunk?

I found it patchy, but the good stuff was definitely there.

He's on a mission - posted an amusing rant up on his website about how he's determined to shed all of the fans who expect him to make and re-make Endtroducing for the rest of his career. If some of the reactions I've seen to the 3 Freaks track are anything to go by, I reckon his mission is going to be pretty successful.

I ain't heard his new record but good luck to him. The idea of having to rake over the coals of your old hit for the fans strikes me as totally miserable.
It's all very well having a style but you've got to move forward or else you would die of boredom.

(whispering: wasn't endtroducing just not quite as good as listening to the records he sampled it from?)

OMFG I've been all about ghostriding the whip etc since I dled the vid. That beat is the hugest. Those little sonar beeps. The high descending wibble wobble synths. The RunDMC sample. Its beyond perfection... Whats more its fast enough to mix with stuff at a slowish house tempo - picture it in the middle of a techno set! I need a Keak to english translator tho...

Plus "Jesus Christ had dreads, so shake em" is the least expected opening line ever.

well he started off doing hip hop proper which personally i enjoyed a whole lot more than the instrumental hip hop in treacle stuff -but then again i might be one of the few people on this earth who thing the second lp he did is better.
the keak the sneak record is ace though imo, rather impressive.

as is that keak and e-40 record from the video - the bass drum ..... i like the way they give you all the characteristic attributes of the subculture in the song.

Late pass dude! Thats E-40.

Where y'all been.

Seriously tho, check the MTV "My Block" link I posted, it'll give you a better/broader picture of bay area rap than 'hyphy' which is dope but just one side of one weird fucking rap city. (Not that it doesn't have its shortcomings too but there's definitely some gold footage on there)
