Western Movies

I did this list a few years ago in which I made the claim that Duck, You Sucker! was the best Leone:

padraig (u.s.)

a monkey that will go ape
That definitely reworks some of the tropes and makes them speak to the contemporary moment.
yeah a ton of cinema - heist films, for example - does that indirectly, but you'd probably call that movie directly a modern Western

McCarthy is primarily a Western author, actually - that, the Border Trilogy, Blood Meridian

actually among other things it may be, Blood Meridian has a solid case as the ultimate revisionist Western

I'd love to see a well-done filmed version of it but it is almost definitely an impossible book to film, let alone well

I would probably agree with that claim

I notice that more and more people are starting to, particularly since the recent, gorgeous blu-ray release.

The same thing happened with Friedkin's Sorcerer once it got a proper presentation and release: suddenly everybody realised what a masterpiece it was, and acted like they had known it all along, which they hadn't (I have a long memory).

I am still hoping that the same thing will happen to One From the Heart but it hasn't yet.

any movie that begins with a dude pissing is probably going to be pretty good (or terrible, no in-between)

Mexican revolutionary period Westerns are kind of a fascinating sub-genre unto themselves

In Italy they are called Zapatas, and they are some of the best of the bunch: The Mercenary, Compañeros, Tepepa, the Sollima trilogy.

I could see it done as an animation like Waltz With Bashir, but another part of my brain is still recoiling from James Franco’s aborted attempt. It deserves a big screen adaptation, eg “the great rim of the world”, landscape panoramas, the detailed descriptions of fauna and flora and of course the characters and violence, but it’s how you fit the narrative tone in. Those heavy, biblical majestic lines. Possibly my favourite book, never mind western.

Without access to a hard drive info and excluding my Mum’s John Wayne fetish - High Plains Drifter and The Outlaw Josey Wales are lifetime favourites. Same cast you find in both, a real cornucopia of faces and character actors. Whatever you think of Clint’s politics, these rock. Some of the first video rentals we got as kids, my old man went and got A Fistful of Dollars, A Few Dollars More and TGTBATU. All watched over a wet weekend and <minds blown>. He’s dead now and would be a really good source to tap up for “ah, but have you see this yet?”.

Bad Company with whatshisface Bridges is solid. More innocents trying to make a name for themselves and stumbling into serious trouble. Highly recommended. Nic Roeg‘s Eureka is semi-western, prospectors, magical scenery. Meek’s Cutoff is well worth a watch too. Narrow screen ratio, more of that open plains claustrophobia creeping in and unravelling minds. Never seen The Wild Bunch all the way through.

I've loved watching westerns with my dad since childhood. A few days ago we watched his favorite movie "The Wild Bunch". Also very cool movies:
- The Great Race
- For a Few Dollars More
- The Gold Rush
- The Hateful Eigt
- Back to the Future Part III
We watch all this movies on Solarmovie. But I think you can watch them on other sites from this list https://deepmeditationtherapy.blogspot.com/2020/04/prediction-tablet-amorous-marble.html

James Franco adapted (or tried to) Blood Meridian? I didn't know that. I know he adapted a book by him that I've actually never read into the horrible film Child or God.

Franco tried to make films of blood meridian, sound and the fury and as I lay dying. Also has a couple books out. Word is its all crap.

Seems like hes got it made though. Cashed out in early 20s and now just fucks around with lit based vanity projects

The scene depicting the truck crossing the flimsy bridge is absolutely gripping Christ, now compelled to watch it on YouTube. Original movie Wages of Fear is fantastic too

Never quite know what to make of Franco, I kinda think it's good he's trying this stuff instead of just doing Pineapple Express 2, 3, 4 etc

Got this in the post today. I was gonna watch The Hangover Part II later, but might watch Sorcerer instead.
