I believe the Chinese state are spreading misinformation about the virus and lockdowns, but I'm not entirely convinced that that's the entire explanation for other countries locking down.

The main reason is cos other countries were. If this had kicked off in Europe, there is no way we would have locked down...nobody had any idea it was even a thing.

The one thing on which I tended to agree with Trump was how aggressive he was toward China. I dunno that he really knew what he was doing, but I think others have been too accommodating. The relentless pursuit of profits has opened up all sorts of areas for manipulation, e.g. universities and the film industry.

The Chinese government is appalling, obviously. What I'm missing is the part of the argument that explains why they'd go out of their way to make themselves look massively incompetent, either to their own populace or the outside world.

What if western military/corporate intelligence popped a jar there, to play devil’s advocate? At that level the waters are murkier than ever. Logic can factor in as many variables to the contrary too. The defence spending boost is one part posturing over factors like China and another Beyoncé squealing ‘upgrade’. They could’ve let that out 3-4 weeks ago, but the govt waited for the US election.

Problem with the MoD is it‘s so inefficient takes more money to keep any kind of critical infrastructure going to keep the whole shebang of appearance up. Also, just as Oz special ops team gets flagged for war crimes in Afghan (which by default would draw in UK team ops in), more defence wootwoot in the media.

Any/all factors will be exploited by HMGovt as an insane Hyacinth Bucket (not you sir).

Kill them now while there's still time. The only path to freedom is wholesale slaughter. Destroy them and their associates without compunction without mercy.

I'm open to conspiratorial stuff, but the stuff people concentrate on atm's so thin. It's all sloppy image macros that can only be defended with "We'll wait and see" until the next thing comes along and everyone forgets about the previous one. Compare that to the shadow candidate story I posted in Election 2020, they actually tracked down the guy, he tried to lie about it and now he's being investigated. Conspiracy theories going mainstream resulted in the same low-effort content that plagues everything else.

I was looking into the death of Michael Hastings recently. That seems like a story that deserves more attention. A well-respected journalist who covered Iraq, Afghanistan and various stories relating to the security services, who had a piece lined up on Brennan, then director of the CIA, and who died in a high-speed car accident after unsuccessfully asking to borrow his neighbour's car because he felt his had been tampered with.

The FBI also denied ever investigating him then were forced to release a file they had on him.

I thought the implication was "nobody could possibly have come up with a vaccine that quickly"? I admit it's impressive, but then scientists have been making vaccines for many decades now, and I imagine the process is pretty efficient by now.

Plus this isn't the first coronavirus epidemic, so it's not like they were off from a standing start.
