heh

also, hmmm

I can see why you're saying hmmm - I think - but, I mean, he's authentic, singing in Khosa or whatver and he can dance, the sound of new generation Capetown, it's pretty good I reckon. I don't think I'd play it, but that's beside the point I guess.

What do you reckon?

The minibus taxis were once important to the spread and distribution of Kwaito music. These are the most common form of public transport in the township areas, taking routes not served by buses or trains. At first each minibus station looks like total chaos, with no signs for destinations just people yelling and loud music. The whole operation is organized by locals, renting taxis by the day and running the routes the locals demand. The whole operation is not just competitive and market based but also clearly efficient.

In the competitive world of minibus taxis, with competition for fares and low profit margins, a good soundsystem can put one taxi above the others. The music videos often feature the same scene of people doing the same dance outside the minibus, and the gets repetitive after years of the same commute.

On the other side of South African society, many middle-class people who don't take a minibus cite the "loud music" as a determining factor.

I love the fact that all the minibuses went on strike last year in Joburg, driving really slow and just bringing the city to a standstill. I have a fantasy that they were all played screwed tapes at the same time, but they weren't.

I always like the loudest buses, and prior to this ^^ song, had always been like 'there's the disco bus! let's get on that one!'.

I've only been through Soweto and not stayed there but sure there will be plenty plenty to do. I stayed just off 7th Street in Melville which is like kinda hip arty street, nice for a night out but sure you'll have lots of recommendations by people who live there better than me.
