She sounds smarter than the faux-fascists we have here, who are mostly just hung up on Hunter Biden's laptop.

Italy has always been far more receptive to populism. America as a whole has too much of a bourgeois mind set to get dooped by the socially conservative far right types, no feudal myth to fall back on. Even Trump had to have a pragmatic dangerous liaison with them, one could quite possibly call Trump the most cynical politician. What trump wanted, what trump got, etc. Meloni is operating in a more classical far right tradition, less of the conman theatrics.

No, it's not, but that's her significance. She's not an idiot like the rest have been (at least since Pim Fortuyn).

well yeah the dutch with their stupid noncey names are good at this stuff. after all, noncery and populism go together like jam and toast.

this is what Luke fails to understand. he still thinks like the swp paper he masturbated into after smoking a spliff in 1993. He doesn't get that the SWP were and are pussyole democratic filth because they do not understand the absolute necessity of dictatorial art terrorism.

Johnson on Berlisconi from early 2000s “. If we are obliged to compare Silvio Berlusconi with Anna Lindh, and other bossy, high-taxing European politicians. I agree with Farrell: as the narrator says of Jay Gatsby, a man Berlusconi to some extent resembles, he is ‘better than the whole damn lot of them’.”

If Italy is the political laboratory of Europe, then what he created with Forza Italia in 1994 is part of that tradition: he both patented and perfected a political style that would eventually be replicated in most of the democracies of Europe and find its ultimate avatar in the 45th president of the United States.

Physically speaking, Berlusconi’s life could be viewed as a series of battles fought against the aging process, ongoing campaigns in the ultimate war against death. He prepared for combat with vigorous daily exercise and jogging routines; obsessive cleansing habits, driven by his deep phobia of germs; and a high maintenance grooming regime that culminated in the epic struggle against hair loss that transfixed a nation. Perhaps the greatest weapon at his disposal was his dedication to the cult of positive thinking. By his own account, his outlook was utopian and idealist, and in this ideal realm everybody would be young and energetic and look good. Immaculate Caraceni suits, a healthy hairline and a permanent tan had their own spiritual qualities but ultimately served to demonstrate physical and psychological omnipotence and vitality. Berlusconi’s personal doctor, Umberto Scapagnini, once described his patient as “technically immortal” and dedicated part of his career to this pursuit of longevity: the “elixir of youth” prescribed by ‘Dr. Fuck’ boosted Berlusconi’s libido well into his seventies, with dire political consequences.
